Just a question... My Right side cv joint (drivers side) has crapped itself for the last 3 months.... Ive driven it like a baby, but this weekend i have to drive up north with my gf and her mum.... Question is, how much can a rooted cv joint (boot is screwed and wrecked) take?
Can i drive up there without a problem? how much stress can a broken joint take?
and can anyone recomend a cheap Air con regass place for a daywooo nubira car in perth?
Thanks guys!

my cv's had started to make a ticking noise when cornering as my boots had failed the mechanic said as long as you can put up with the noise they wont fall out so i guess the will last a fair while while being noisy

the cv joints are responsible for tranfering power from the car to the wheel, worst case scenario is that the cvs will fail and you will get no power to the wheels. which means you wont be going anywhere anytime soon. i guess also the worst thing that could also happen is that, your wheel bearing may break. which means more money outta the wallet. so looking at the pros and cons 70 to 80 bucks aint that much to replace a boot.

Your mechanic has a few screws loose. They can break apart. I used to reco them in the early days. From what i remember there is just a circlip holding the outer secton together. If you have no grease etc and lots of friction and heat as mentioned it could seize or break away eventually. Dont mess with it get it sorted once and for all. For $300 I would expect new left and right shafts, its time give your mechanic the flick.

I was driving around on a noisy CV joint for about 8 months before I got it fixed. It sucked. Cost me $200 for a whole new shaft.
The mechanic told me to regularly check the boots as the CVs should last ages but when the boot splits, letting all the grease out, they crap out.

I just had a left hand cv boot done on my TS. Needed a new driveshaft too. But now it's making a squeaky noise on hard left lock at low revs.
any ideas? should I take it back to the mechanic?
(sorry for resurrecting old threads, but i figure people complain if you make a bunch of new threads too!)

I shattered both my left and right driveshafts when I blew my gearbox and they cost $180 each to replace including installation.
