Won't cause any immediate damage providing you don't drive like a maniac. It's basically just a bunch of rubber that's split. It's fairly easy to do, you may need 2 people - to have it installed by a mechanic you're looking at about 20-30 mins work so a basic hours labour ($60-$70)

There's one on the drivers side near the washer bottle, one on the gearbox and 2 more under the engine. One is kinda visible on the passenger side.

Bit rough on idle maybe. Biggest thing I noticed was when the wheels were spinning and I got some axle tramp you could hear and feel the motor bouncing up n down.

Pretty much - probably alot more noticable on a car with manual transmission because of the increased movement in the engine when the clutch disengages which can cause axle tramp. In an auto I'm guessing the axle tramp would be alot less of an issue - but increased vibration in the cabin is possible.

Yes. Drivers side engine mount near the washer bottle was busted. Bought one from megatron for $110 and installed it with the help of a mate. Block of wood under the sump and a jack, big spankin socket and you're good. Took about 30 mins.

in auto, get bigger *THUNK* when going from N -> D etc
ive had mega vibrations on deceleration lately, i thought it was brake pulsation, but my mechanic told me an engine mount must be 'loose'.
also noticed since that on idle the engine rocks back n forth slightly, and the front doors wobble a bit when open, in time with the engine vibration..
busted engine mount? a bit of rubber on my driver side mount was loose, and i pushed it back in place.. im presuming it shouldnt be movable at all when correct?

Engine mount is the actual donut between the outer metal ring & inner metal tube.
On either side there could be some flat rubber flaps size of your palm,
they don't do nuttin', just there for cosmetics... or maybe shield dirt getting in.
hrm ok..
how would you go about diagnosing a broken engine mount then?

When the rubber breaks they stop the aluminum mount from bashing into the body of the car.

Have used a replacement rubber mount from ASP.
They require and exchange aluminium housing though.
All seems to work OK - 2 years in service - manual car (no burnouts though)
