Hey, im looking for a new head unit but i dont use any media (cds/tapes) all i use for music is my psp plugged into the aux slot, what im wondering is, can you buy a head unit thats just used for radio with an aux in? will it be cheaper than one with a cd player? thanks

Most basic JVC's have AUX in.
Most of the sonys and kenwoods dont.
There is a visible headphone jack on the front. Make sure you can see it...reason being my smart mate went to buy car audio without me....then came to me said ooo look what i got it has AUX IN.....i said where.....i turn it around and its on the back........:doubt:

man the SQ would suck, dont try convincing me otherwise, buy a decent h/u and use the psp for games, ipods etc... are for mobile music and are carp for incar use, my h/u has an ipod interface and i wouldnt pee on an ipod if it were on fire for incar use.....
i have MP3 dics and you can tell the difference in SQ according to the bit rate that you rip the on, and on your psp using flash memory i'd say you have your mp3s at low quality as on high quality you'd only get a few songs on it.... for example
i have my mp3's in my car each file is about 30-50mb!! lossless wma vs Mp3 320kpbs @ around 7-8mb you can hear the diff, most Mp3's are around 120kbps and sound great... but when you hear them from a better source it's a noticeable difference ;)
now my audio system is pretty okish, but if you have a real good system you will notice it even more...
get urself a dvd h/u

I agree that the sound quality does suffer using front aux inputs from mp3 players.
I have since burnt my mp3s to cd's and the sound quality is much improved (more bass and definition). It's still not as good as the original, but at least I can shuffle through 12 albums at once on long trips.

yea cd sounded better, but i rasther have everything on one hard drive then 40 stractched cd's lying around.
it's alright if the aux is at the back, just remeber to plug the cable in before you put the head in, its looks neater that way too

You still need power for your psp why not just plug in a power plus radio receiver if you just want it to be cheap.
I used to do the casette adaptor thingy and you still need power adaptor for yopur gadget.

does it matter if the aux is in the back? just run the wire to the cabin somewhere, maybe even drill a hole, buy a female port from jaycar (or similar electronics place) and custom make ur own aux input in the dash somewhere? would be handy for mp3 players and stuff :)

Have a read of this article, The Truth about iPod Sound Quality (http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58276), and reconsider. It presents allot of useful facts. There seems to be allot of hearsay about the iPod being crap for incar use but having listened to iPod's with 320kbps or even lossless files from the lineout in a car the sq is excellent.

hey i ran my psp in my car using a psp with 1.5v firmwhere and a 2nd party mp3 player program, 2gb duo card and songs ripped at 256kb ps and higher, the sq wasn't to be laughed at, of course nothing like that of a cd, and i would much preffer a cd, but it was my replacement while HU on warranty repair, and also it had awesome visualisations so meh!
