hey all.
i am just a little curious about my pioneer sub, the ts-w306c, which is 400wRMS and 1000w max.
at the moment i am powering it with a orion 5 channel amp, which is running my 2 6X9s at 50rms with the gain all the way up, my pioneer sub at 150rms with gain all the way up. Because of the lack of bass, i was forced to put in another sub (cheap crappy orion sub with 150w rms printed on the magnet, which is running off of the remaining 2 channels.
please let me know what you think cause it is really worrying me that i bought such an expensive sub ($220, now that may not be deer to you but hey) and i want it do atleast be able to rock my TJ without needing help from an orion sub.
i am also thinking of buying another one of these subs and putting them in a custom fibreglass box.
can anyone also please give me some suggestions for a good amp (under $400) to run both of these pioneer subs)
 thanks

the reason why the sub isnt sounding good is because of the lack ot power going into it
best thing to do would be to buy another amp just for the sub
monoblock would be best but a 2ch would get the job done
400 bucks should pick you up a decent amp to run the sub
you also might wanna run the good sub off of the 2 remaining channels instead of the cheaper sub, should get abit more power that way
check out the response range in amps should pick up a decent one cheap to run your subs

how is your sub wired up? as a 2ohm or 4ohm?

4 ohm off of the single channel
Mr_Roberto

that single channel should accept a 2ohm load
if so change your sub to a 2ohm load
if that amp can do 2ohm should be seeing about 300watts rms out of that channel

and how exactly do i change it to a 2 ohm load?

your sub should have 4ohm voice coils, correct?
take the sub out of the box and have alook how it is wired up
you need to join the two postive voice coils together and the two negative voice coils together giving you a 2ohm load

its only a single voice coil sub :doubt:

ah i had a feeling that i might be
then theres not much you can do unless you upgrade the amp

ya i think i might soldier on with this for a while and save up for the DVC version.
thanks for the replys

why has no one looked at the fact that HE HAS THE GAINS ALL THE WAY UP!
gains are not there to turn all the way up, they are there to to make up for the lack of input voltage from your source. the newer the head unit, chances are, the lower you have to turn the gains up. right now you are doing damage to your speakers and subs in an attempt to get louder, which will make it possible a decibel or so louder, but SOUND quieter due to the disgusting sound coming out of it.
get someone who has a sound knowledge on detecting when distortion is introduced into a system, or better yet, a shop with an oscolliscope, to set your amp levels for you.
also, running mix n matched subs might make it a bit louder, at the great sacrifice of sound quality. lose the orion sub, and stick the 306c into a proper box, say 2.0cuft ported with a 4" aero
next step is to upgrade the amp, either use 4 channels of the orion for speakers and get a monoblock/2 channel for the sub, or sell the orion, and get something more suitable for both applications.
the 306C is VERY CAPABLE of pushing power through your car, there should be no need to go sticking other subs in the system to make up.
good luck,
Damon

probably doing some damage to the sub feeding it only 150rms with the gains maxed, its bad practice, that and you got 2 different subs in there, that wont do you any justice either
