I know that a lot of people dont like Sony around hear but i was wondering if any one had any opinions on the CDX-MP850?

Also is there any othe decks for $1000 or less that i might be better of getting but it must have mp3 capabilities?

Unfortunately not around the $1k mark.

Ive never looked at a headunit above $600 as i couldnt justify the waste of money :)

I myself have a DEH-5550MP..

Plays MP3's/wmv's etc etc.. But from what i can see you want something thats a real showy type face...

i have a JVC SH-9105 that i'll be selling pretty soon for $700 (retails for $999)... looks pretty, has all the features, and will definately out-last any sony unit. (my mate has on of the earlier flip-out decks and barely plays any CD's anymore, cuts out a anything above low volume... etc etc)

i do like the look of the sony unit (apart from the fact that it will stick out 3cm from the dash), but they just need to build some decent stuff that will last more than a year....

If you are handy with your local audio outlet you will be able to get the Alpine CDA-7998R Fantom-Face unit (next best thing to F1) under $1k (rrp = 1699). RRP seriously is a joke on most electronics.

Next best I'd go for either the 9815R Alpine or the best pioneer you can get under $1k....

Cheers,
Adam

I just installed the Panasonic CQ-DF983 and I am very happy with it having come from a previous Panasonic unit. SQ is very good and the display face is clean and well set out. Talked sticker price down to $600.

HD BIG (Beat Impact Graphic) display
CD Changer control
3 beam holgram pickup
Scan, search, repeat, pause and random play
CD text display
18 FM & 6 AM presets with preset scan
Removeable Faceplate with flashing warning light
Muting/Attenuator
Blue colour illumination (LCD/ control buttons)
Day & night design
Spectrum Analyser
AUX input
Super bright display with dimmer
Wireless remote control

Or if you want to spend more maybe go for the CQ-HX2083 RRP $1199 which has a touch-screen control set

yeah it is an eclipse unit, (from tonkins) the one i seen was $2600, no flip-out tv or anything, just a double-din unit flush in the dash... barely any buttons, but lots of cool EQ and DSP features
