I can get my car to 140km/h max(private road) gets there quite fast, after that the auto goes into top gear and revs at about 1300rpm (very low) I think it would take at least 5km to get it to top speed is this normal?

Doesn't sound right at all mate. In my old auto TJ - I was only just getting out of 2nd gear at about 135-140km/h. Yours should definetly be holding 3rd at that speed.

I'm guessing that mines the same until it hits third! 2nd gear 140km/h no probs its when it goes to third that the revs wont rev out, it just cruises at 1300rpm with my foot flat.
If anyone knows a possable cause or solution I would be grateful.

Have you tried holding it in the gears and changing up manually?

i cant think of the problem maybe its the auto transmision?
i can get my vr-x to 210 down a slight hill in about 30 seconds, then it redlines.

I haven't tried to do it manually but I will tomorrow. Other wise I will have to take it to someone.

As I stated I have access to a private road and was planning to take my car to the track til I realised this problem.

I seriously hope that was on your so called "private road" you have access to, otherwise this comment in the other thread is going to seem just a tad hypocritical...but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt eh?
A higher road toll has to be expected with the amount of traveling people do at Christmas. As for penalties doubled, don't speed, I don't want to give the cops the satisfaction of taking my hard earned money so it can be spent on some politicians million dollar retirement.

good good :)
Hey I dont see the point in winding a magna off the clock, private road or not, but each to their own. If you have to do it at least you are getting your speed fix out of your system on a private road!

Although the standard magna has the ability to get to speeds of over 200km/hr, it is not designed to brake, steer nor handle well at those speeds... 'private road' or not, the brakes are not going to save you if you needed them suddenly, they just aren't engineered for those speeds, nor is the structural design if the car suddenly took flight.
...families aren't really designed for tragic news either.

The AMC does not condone dangerous driving... please be careful out there.

hey i noticed the same issue with my series 1 tj vr-x, it was actually to do with me not flooring it enough - i put it to the floor and let off a bit subconsciously, like i always do, you know when you want the car to kickdown but not rev too much.., and it maxxed at like 150, i put the pedal like 15mm further down so it couldnt go any further and she just took off, i stopped accelerating @ 200 with about 2000rpm left to go on the dial..
i think it has to do with the tps, and where it senses WOT. perhaps to stop you accidently speeding like a maniac while overtaking?? or perhaps poorly adjusted tps..
