i recently installed a brand new Alpine mp3 cd/radio and have noticed that the electric aerial is always up when the radio or cd is on whereas with my stock cd/radio the aerial only went up when the radio was playing and not the cd. is this normal for alpine?

mine doesnt do that, it acts like the standard deck
might have wired it up wrong

the remote wire turns on your amps
in this case, apline decks have a power antenna wire which is normally blue
i would double check this wire

yes i wired blue to the power antenna on the car wiring but still goes up all the time. also is it normal after you start the car for the deck to take about 4/5 seconds to come on?

hmmm thats strange then someone else should be able to shine some light on this cause i didnt install my deck so i wouldnt have a clue about how mines wired up
and yes the deck will come on a short time after the car has started or is in the ACC, usually about 4/5 seconds

I had the same prob mate

Now it's been a while since i did my install buttt saying that i think the blue wire with the white stripe through it is the remote and the plain blue wire is for the Power antenna. ( this is the wires going from the car to the HU) Try swapping them mate you cant do any damage as there is min amount of power going thru the 2 wires. Alpine actually label there wires im pretty sure otherwise if you dont have any luck i can open up the dash for ya and have a gander will only take me a few sec.

EDIT: my deck comes on after about 1/2 a second but it takes about 5 sec to load if it is MP3 or DVD

Ive got an Alpine Headunit in My TL and the antenna only goes up with the radio on... Double check the install..
