Check the one on the left with a nice spike and gap! Gone after some 50 G km, not 100 as claimed they should last. Right side plug is conventional NKG after some 15 G km. Still loox ok.
No wonder the donk was bit sluggish for a while.... :)
Before u ask, AFR very good, more on the rich side than lean if anything.

Hmmm,

Ive got some new platinums sitting at home to install on the weekend. My old platinums are ~120,000Km old so I cant wait to see how they look :)

Mmmhhh? So it's meant to be like that?! Makes sense then. But the engine functions were greatly improved after the change and it wasn't cos of the front plugs, cos they were quite fresh. See, I have never seen the platinum plugs before cos they were changed at the purchase

The little bit on the end of the plug, on one its a little point and the other its bigger and flat.

Original Poster (and me lol ) thought the pointy plug must have been worn, however from what people have said it appears that thats just the way the platinums are, and we are just n00bs :)

Ohh...Yeah thats how they come...
Notice a difference with those plugs in? Now that the car doesnt burn oil (interally:rant: ) I might use some

BTW you don't gap the Iridiums - you use them straight out of the box. The same MAY apply to the platinums, not sure.

Do you know of any good websites with some background information on the Iriduim/Platmium Spark plug?

platinum plugs do have the " arrow head " electrode.... normal.. and from the looks of it, it's showing normal signs of wear, and no oil burning issues!
the standard plug is also showing wear.. hence the rounded appearance.. the sides and top should be straight! nothing to worry about, all normal

Just some feedback

My mechanic recently did the plugs on my 2001 KJ. He replaced the NGKs with a set of AC Delco Platinum items for the FRONT and REAR banks. Apparently has been using them for a while now and he has had no probs whatsoever.

The NGKs on mine were not bad (I replaced them at 50k and now 100k), but I gotta say the car is running really nice with these at the moment, even the rough idle syndrome has improved.

They worked out at $60 for the set ($10 each), so not that dear either.

Not really - I went full Iridium 18 months ago due to word of mouth from here and something Phillcom Rally posted at the time. I find them very good, but be aware the Iridium IX are 'only' 60k plugs not 100k like the Platinums, so you will have to change them more often. The original 8mm Iridiums are 150K plus but I assume they're very expensive as I've not heard of anyone using those.
