I had a key get lodged in a front tyre and Bridgestone Tyre Centre plugged it for $25. Now I read that the AWD's should have 4 new tyres?

This seems very much overkill, who has that much spare to bother replacing 3 perfectly good tyres.

4 new tyres because you got a plug? Where on earth did you read that?

manufacturer probably wants all tyres to be identical rolling diameter due to awd, and assume that the plug is a temporary fix only, so they don't want to have one new tyre and three worn.

you have read incorrectly.. a plugged tyre doesn't mean all 4 tyres need renewing! drive it, and enjoy it!

My understanding is that a tyre with a speed rating higher than "V" can not legally be repaired, by any method, not even for the spare.
There are strict rules about how a tyre should and shouldn't be repaired, size of hole, location on tyre, speed and load ratings.
I guess if you sook at the dealer he will fix it for you, although he IS breaking the law.
If you are still in doubt, ask the dealer to see his standards manual, all the info is in there, if he hasn't got one, find a dealer who has and let him carry out any repairs.

OFF TOPIC

it's a common thing that on AWD's that you must replace all 4 tyres if one is wornout stolen damaged etc...

the question i have is though, according to the service history of my car 2 tyres replace at the 60k service... i asked the service ppl about it (mitsu dealer) and he told me that there is no bulletin stating that all 4 must be changedm the 2 changed were on same axle and same model as what was previously on there... the car has diffs non of which are locked or mechnaical lsd and it's fine....

anyway didnt concern me as i brought the car wayy after and its got 20's now.... but after 500-2000ks i had to change a tyre (1only) and used the spare factory with no issues...

although i have heard subaru strongly advises against that and all 4 must be changed...

just guess mitsus are much tuffer the subarus thanks to the Evolution heratige compared to a call that called a wrex :bowrofl:

Thanks for your replys.

I got the car from my Dad a week ago.

I get 2 year old magna and traded-in a 98 futura saphire.

So far seems a great car. To be used for Family stuff, Towing and trips away. Plus a bit of fun when I get out on my own.
