Hi all,
I am looking at either adapting MMCd or maybe even writing my own software to work with the second gen magna.

I have created a ALDL => RS232 interface but have no idea where to plug the car data wire into. How does the MUT-II interface with the second gen?

Cheers,
Nathan

i think there is a connector on the side of the fuse box... that might be what you are looking for.... do you have a wiring diagram for the wire??? i have been thinking of this also

That's the ALDL connector that I am after. What I need to know is where the MUT plugs into (which wires). The wiring diagrams I have dont show it.

I believe I need to somehow jump the computer to place it into diagnostic mode.

Hi there

Yep, that's the diagnostic connector next to the fuse box, it's a 12 pin white Molex connector.
ECU outputs data on pin 1, with ignition on it sends trouble code pulses, readable with an analogue voltmeter or LED test lamp. Short pin 10 to ground (pin10 to pin12 does this) and the ECU is in ALDL diagnostic mode.
MMCDLogger running on a Palm PDA through the ALDL adaptor works fine on Gen1 and Gen2 EFI models. Been using it successfully for 3 years and rehashed the adaptor for more functionality. It logs & graphs data/checks & resets DTCs/and more.Very useful freeware
PM me if you need more details.

Quite a lot of stuff at the MMCDLogger and DSMTuner sites on this subject.
A PC version would be good but haven't seen one.
Gen 3 needs a different adaptor and PC software like Mitsulogger and Evoscan to deal with the later MUT protocol presented through the OBD2 connector.

Good luck

Thanks Jack, I knew pins had to be jumped just had no ideas which. I will try it when I get my TR back (its on loan at the moment).

I have a passive and an active cable and have just ordered the pocket logger set from the US. I hear pocketlogger is really popular among the DSM guys.

I will let you all know how I go and if things work well - write a tutorial on my website about it.
Cheers and thanks,
NAthan

I forgot too - if you want PC software Tunerstein is used by the DSM fellas.

Hi Nathan
I hadn't seen a PC version of Tunerstein, I'll check it out. The PDA version was difficult to use, not like MMCd.

BTW I've just discovered this Palm emulator arrangement from the DSM guys which allows MMCd to run on a PC. It seems to work fine and saves rehashing the software but it does need a PC interface device like FTDI that can handle the non-standard weirdo data rates correctly if it is used for logging directly from the vehicle.

I'd be interested to know if anyone knows a source for the 12 pin Molex connectors, never had any luck so far, I think they might be made by Sumitomo.

Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks mate.
Tunerstein is the PC version of Palmenstein. There are like two seperate projects now...

As for my experiment, its amazing how easy it is once you connect it right, MMCd works well and I have Pocketlogger on the way!
