unfortunetely i win lol

380,000km's .............. guy that owned it b4 me drove round australia in it .
though i think its a testiment to just how good thense cars are!! as my car is still running perfectly and no one believes me that it has done that many K's and is in such a great condition.

So if anyone bags old school magna's ..... which happens alot , its completely not true .. they rule!

My old 3 pot NA had 250 and it was a 94 model. Its now in a different car and not missing a beat, 180psi compression ;) mine has 74k on it and had low compression, bad valves..... ect. full rebuild has begun

KM on the clock mean NOTHING at all.

hrm - so most of you guys are driving relatively virginal magnas then? i think the hightest was 308,000 k's? is this all the magnas can do?

i wonder what the highest an astron has done is? theoretically i wonder if you could clock the speedo if one of these engines was kept in top condition!?! ;)
hehe

12-01-2004, 07:53 PM
Well, out of the V6's, mine did 258,000 before packing it in, and that was ill maintainance on the previous owners. Killbilly's done 270,000 km.

CheapElante
13-01-2004, 12:14 AM
My Magna Elante has done about 240 000k's.

One of my Scorps has done 396 000k's so far, been written off a couple of times but i just keep fixing it and it just keeps going. Not the original engine though, thats long gone. Was turboed for a while but now NA again.

The engine thats in it now got rebuilt one afternoon after i put a valve through one of the pistons. Put it together with whatever bits i could find and it's done 30 000k's so far without a problem.

taxis get 1million km on there cars, you know why? because they stay running for a long time durring the day

90 percent of engine wear is when the car is cold and when the car is being gunned around. Rarely gun your car and NEVER gun it when its not totaly up to temp and change the oil often and you can get 300 with good compression very easyly

my 88 elante got 325 K's on it and was still goin hard, no faults with the engine, just had to replace the starter moter and cv joints and all that crap but yeh the engine had a cracked and warped head and i drove it on a 700km road trip and back with a hole in the radiator, come home cost me $300 for the heads to be replaced and shit and it went good.

my 98 tf sports has 240K's on it now and its still goin hard :D

I owned a TN SE and sold her about 1/2 a year ago with 295,000.

Highest i've personally seen was at the wreckers in a TP. Nearly half a mil. 492,000. Poor Magna would have been to china and back several times over. I'll never forget the day i saw it lol.

mines clocked a bit over 390,000.
it blows a little smoke on startup and third gear synchro is a little lazy :(

other than that it cruises along nicely 8)

216,650 when I bought it, 216,707 when it died. Thats 57Kms. The old owner only told us afterwards the car used a bit of water on long trips. The crack was in the usual place, right under the exhaust manifold(which had its own cracks) on the block which meant I didn't see it until the manifold came off.

62 000kms on the engine, 192 000 on the clock. Engine swaps are great. After reading this thread it seems even 192 000 for a TP is pretty good.

The original engine was left sitting in the shed for well over a year, not even touched, it was pretty stuffed when it was finally started, major cracks in the head from bolt to plug.

Has anyone ever seen a magna going on the original build of the engine over 400 000, Ive seen a Toyota Tercel 4WD and a celica, both 83 models, goin fine and no smoke.

I have a 91 TP wagon that has seen 267000 klicks, had to have the head done at 255000 coz of the smoke she blew, became a lil too embarrassing!!!
I got the car with 128000 on it and the ones I have racked up have been very hard k's, but now the heads rebuilt its sweet again. When the head was taken off we checked out the bottom end and its was a tight as the day it was made... not a problem there so heres hoping I get another 250000 out of it. :D

I had a triton with a 2.6L. I sold it with 365'000km and still going strong with no smoke. I've seen over 500'000km on original sigmas, the highest km original Magna I have seen is 420'000km on a TP manual and that was one owner, highway driven.

My TP has done around 93,000, only mechanical probs i've had with it are stuffed radiator hoses (previous owner didnt keep an eye on the water situation) and a dodgy seal around the rocker cover which i got fixed.

Apart from that its trouble free (damn well should be with those kays on it).

My old work i thinnk had a 'dud' magna, a '92 which was on it's 2nd motor and 3rd auto when i left there, but being a work car it got such a flogging. One of me friends made it the 3rd auto after only 6 months use, the reco'd auto died badly.... he drives hard... very hard

I was at 181,000 when it broke the chain on November 10th. Since then, the dash was changed over to read 248,550, and a second hand motor was dropped in. It's now done 249,988, though there is several K's unaccounted for, as I was driving with no cluster for a while...

265,000 on my TM. Original Motor I Believe. Still going strong. Drive it everyday to work. I got it at 171,000 for $2000 from family member. Spend about that again on fixing small things like altenator, starter motor, battery, seals, etc...

Trying to get rid of it to go overseas... put an ad up in the for sale section.

What the dash says, or what the car's really done?

The Dash says 173,xxx km. This is due to the fact that I used the old Ghost's analogue dash, played around with, due to the typical dead tacho. (The other cluster said 193,xxx, but was a swapsie by the place I bought it from. The car was originally to be used for parts. It was the better condition.)

As for the real distance, 293,xxx km, the engine is the original number. Unknown if it's been rebuilt, or when it's due, though it is burning oil from being in storage, hopefully a run will fix that.

The Elite's 160,xxx km. She'll be getting a new motor in soon enough.
