View Full Version : Speaker Replacement ES TL WAGON

I have yet another question about my ES TL Wagon.
I have spotted threads already about removing the Console and door trims but I want to know the easiest way to replace the front door speakers and the read boot door speakers. I assume that the covers on these pop off but I don't want to attack them with a screw driver as I am crap and will most likely destroy the cover/scratch it.
Should I get a screw driver onto it or is there a better way?
Also - what are the standard sizes for the front door and rear boot door speakers, are there any other speaker mount points I can use (in the dash) that I don't already know about and has anyone ever installed an AMP/Subwoofer(s) - I would be interested in seeing how they/you went about it.
Thanks,

You will prob get more response to this question in the Car Audio section mate.
As far as i know the fronts are 6" in our cars, mine has 6x9's in the rear, dunno about wagon. Id assume they would be the same or 6" in the rear aswell. Have a look at the owners manual, im sure it says what they are and how to get them out in there.

Thanks for your help.
I'll check it out when I get a free second.
I'll add the post to the Audio section.

you need to take the door trim off to get to the speakers at the front
should be three screws holding it in place
1. behind the handle 2. in that fingure grip bit under the cover, if you look inside there you will see it a small flat head screwdriver should work a treat to pop it out 3. inside the a/c vent that leads to the door, its the circle bit
then all you have to do is start from the bottom corner and pull away as the trim is clipped in
as for the boot there should be screws holding it in but im not sure
as for the speaker sizes they are 6 1/2" or 6" at the front and 6x9's in the rear

they will fit cause i've currently got 6 1/2" speakers in my doors
but the only modification you have to do is drill another hole to wack a screw in (on the plastic bit you'll see it when you take the trim off)
but the speaker should fit no worries

Thanks guys!
So i can't just pop the grill off the outside to replace the front speakers.
Do I need to take the trim off the wagon boot door to replace the 6x9's?
Also, I have read a few people asking about the 4" looking covers in the dash and was wondering if these were meant for speakers as well. I have read some other posts but they all seem to stray off topic in this area.

no you need to take off the trim to get to the speaker
same goes for the boot lid
dont worry about those 4" covers on the dash, theres nothing there
dont think there is ment to be anything there either

The 4" covers ur talking of are they the ones either side of the dash just near where the a-pillar connects to the body? If so i thought they were tweeter pods, i was planning to mount my tweeters in there when i get my splits.

you should have tweeter pods on your door
this would be the best place for your tweeters not on top of the dash

some vehicles like my Verada wagon have speakers in the 4in spots on the dash - the front speaker set-up in the verada at aleast was a three way speaker, with the miss-bass driver in the door, a mid-range speaker in the dash, and a tweeter in the door pod thingy's......so some cars will already have a speaker there, some wont...
i found this out by mistake when i started upgrading my system and thought i had disconnected all the speakers - anyhow, next time i turned the ignition, forgetting the stereo was already turned on - I started hearing music, thought i was going insane for a second, i quickly realised where the sound was coming from!!

Thanks guys.
Im not a big tweater fan when they are right next to your head. I was looking to install 4" speakers in the dash as they are generally a good thing for such a small speaker. I don't think tweaters in that postion would do all that good, but it may be to only way - depending on how hard cable is to run.

I didnt even realize the doors had tweeter spots in them, i dont think i have even looked under the hood yet, havent really had much time to myself recently. My mate has a set of decent 4" 2ways for sale, might chuck them in there if i can be bothered, which i highly doubt i would be when the time comes.

I gotta go down to my uncle and get them to code in my extra remote so i might get dad to order them in and have them fitted then, or just wait til my service is due. Tweeter pods would be a big help.
