I assume you mean the Throttle position switch? To clean it, go to a parts shop with your old one and take home a new one, will be nice and clean
These can not be pulled apart and are only replaceable
If you are talking about your throttle body, check out the tech pages here http://madmagna.atspace.com/veradahome.htm

Is it possible just to clean the metal flicker part? I have been told it builds up with gunk and makes the car idle worse?
please let me know asap

havent really noticed the rpm, however last time I had my TPS cleaned the car idle'd alot better, it builds up with gunk.
Its fairly new, just alot of crap stops the proper action of the TPS (which flickers side to side)
Its slowly getting worse, and im almost 100% sure its the TPS which I need to clean, not fully replace its only a year or less old
If I get desperate im just going to undo it, and clean it - just hope I dont screw anything up before I need the car for a fair trip on monday

i think u may be meaning the butterfly in the throttle body. because as someone already stated u cant clean the tps. take the air intake pipe off the throttle body and work the butterfly while spraying with carby cleaner. easy fixed

Correct, the butterfly (throttle plate) is what you clean
The TPS is actually a sealed unit and can not be dismantled. If it has been then there lies your problem as when it is made there is a protective zinc or brass coating applied which insulates it and ensures a good electrical contact. When you clean something like this you will get arcing which will cause bad signal.
