View Full Version : K&N panel: remove rubber gasket?

Just fitted my new K&N panel filter today, originally just replaced the standard filter with it, but it was a very tight squeeze height-wise, and the box sat higher (still closed, though).
Then I recalled reading something in the instructions about removing a rubber seal (which didn't seem applicable in this case), and removed the seal glued into the top of the box. Fits much better now, and seems like it's still got a proper seal.

So... did everyone else do this when installing theirs? Or should I put the seal back in?

PS. For those that haven't seen one, the K&N has a rubber frame, not hard plastic, and the frame is thicker than normal. I'm assuming it's supposed to provide it's own sealing system?

Thats weird Mate, i never took anything off from mine, just had to wiggle it to get it to fit.
I do agree it was a tighter fit but yeah i didn't have to remove anything

Mine was $60 off ebay, brand-new. Dunno about pod costs.

GoTRICE, I'm not that thick, specifically printed on it was "this side up" :D

The guy specifically stated that it's for the TR-TS, the model is MM33-2045, which I think I searched for here and it was agreeable.

The airbox did actually close with the seal still there, but it was rather tight, and sat a good 5mm or so higher. And yes, I did quadruple-check that it was seated correctly, the filter was down as far as it would go.
Without the seal, it would appear that the filter frame squeezes nicely up to the top of the airbox.
