Hello,
I have a 99 Diamante (Verada, Magna). I sliced my factory harness to wire it into a new Pioneer CD player. I came across a sticky situation. There is a thick gauged blue wire on my factory harness....Since it is the thickest I would thin 12V Battery-Constant. But on the wiring chart on this site, it is saying that it is the 12v Ignition wire. It says that the thinner gauged Red/White is the 12v Battery-Constant. See I always thought the thickest wire (which would be the blue in this situation) is the 12V Battery-Constant power??? And then the thinner gauge would then be left for the 12v ignition? Let me know how I should wire it up.
On my Pioneer harness, the 12v Battery Constant is a thick gauged yellow wire. The 12v Ignition ACC is a thinner gauged Red.
Thanks a lot!

I believe this can totally depend on the headunit where it gets it's power from. I've had 1 headunit that had a thick constant 12v and a thin accessary, and then my new HU is the exact opposite. If your new headunit gets it's power around the other way it might be worth looking at a direct battery connection for the permenant 12v.

I wired like I had said in my post and it is not keeping the presets (no memory) and I cant shut the unit off unless I shut the engine down. I am guessing I need to swap the wires (Constant and Ignition)?
Btw, I cant start a fire like this can I? This is the manufacture, I am sure they know they are using a thin gauge to thick and visa-versa?
Thanks

Also, I spliced the factory pink wire to the pioneer blue/white wire. The blue/white wire is the remote amp/power antenna? I thought it could only be one or the other? Well, as I have it wired now with it spliced into the pink, the antenna goes up when I turn the headunit on and stays on untill I shut the car down, is this normal? The antenna stays up even if the cd player is on....? I heard Pioneer headunit do this...?
Let me know.
Thanks

So you hooked the thick to the thick and the thin to the thin? If so that is why your headunit is behaving that way. I ran a thick to thin wire in my TR and had no problems, but i didn't really crank it all that much. It's only at high volumes it's going to make a difference.
Like i said, if your headunit is using a thick constant wire, hook it up to the battery instead of the wire that comes with the car stock.

You need to double check the wiring harness for the headunit to see if there is a power antenna wire. On my old Sanyo deck, it had power antenna and remote wire as the same wire, but they were just both blue (luckily they had stickers on them to identify which was which).

I see. Yes, I have it connected thick to thick, thin to thin. I just wanted a replacement for the stock stereo and I do not plan to modify any other audio. I will connect it thick to thin for both wires, as you have in the past. It should be good enough. I have a piece of **** pioneer, they make one wire for both remote amp and power antenna.....:bowrofl:
Well, Ill wire it up and see how it goes. Thanks for your help.

Also, I heard that you can wire a switch in between the remote/antenna wire, so the antenna stays down when playing cds? Is this possible? Has anybody ever done this? When they switch, is it a real flipper type switch you wire up to say the center console? Sorry, if I am way off here....help me out.:bowrofl:
Thanks!

Errrmm... The wiring diagram you found initially (assumed here (http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Mitsubishi-Wiring.pdf)) is correct...
Ignore thick/thin... Your headunit doesnt pull that much current; a few amps maybe.
It is never necessary to run a direct route for the headunit from the battery. Stock leads are fine. You may want to ground the headunit to the chassis directly though as the stock ground can be dodgy sometimes.
With the switch, you can put any type of switch in you want, anywhere you want to.
Peace

Yes, got it from there.
I see. I will rewire in the morning and hope for the best. I grounded the unit to a place near the driver's footwell (closer to the chassis). Thanks for your help!

Might be better off grounding to the stock metal that the headunit screws into, (take out one of the screws there and screw into that. You want it as short as possible.
Il assume that the run you have to the drivers footwell is 1 metre or so long?
Aim to have it around 15 cm long instead.
Good luck.

Thanks. Yes about that long....I was about to put it on the stock metal mounting, but is it really getting grounded? It is not getting much chassis (earth) is it? The mount does not reall touch much metal? Please let me know what you think. I do not know much abou this stuff.
Thanks.

So long as it is earthed it will be fine, resistance would be insignificant.
