The 2.4L is a newer engine than the Astron and from I know is based on the 2.0L engines in the lancers (?? I think). It's about 8% more powerful but about 5% less torquey.

*WARNING* ALL INFORMATION IS SUPPLIED AFAIK *WARNING*
The 2.4L is a modified 2.0L lancer engine. Basically Mitsubishi noticed that a lot of lancer owners were modding the pistons so that they stroked further. This ramped up the litres the engine was (normally modded to a 2.3l) which made for a more powerful engine. The 2.0l lancers are a 4g63, the 2.4l magna engine is a 4g64. the 4g64 puts out about 90kw and 170nm of torque. the 4g64 does 105kw and 205nm of torque. But after saying this it should be noted that the 4g63 was built for a car that weighs about 10-20% less than the car the 4g64 was trying to move. New MiVec engines at 2.4l only just improve the 4g64 mark to 115kw and 230nm.

so the new "MIVEC" engine is just a 2.4L magna engine with a mivec system put in?

The 2.4 in the TE/TF's is a brilliant engine, if you can get your hands on one that is.
Dad had one for 9 years, only ever did the usual oil change etc, and it did well over 200,000 on original everything (even timing belt).

i was pretty sure this is the current lancer engine cept the current lancers have the MIVEC,
always wondered what these would be like turbo, could have some potential as i know of someone with an evo 8 who was looking into this engine as a swap (plus alot of engine work)to crack 350 at all 4 :O...and this person does know their stuff so yer
