Would anyone know the reason for this cut-out at the front of my passenger side wheel arch?

Anyone seen anything like it before? I'm also wondering how much it would cost to fix?

I hadn't noticed it before and it was pointed out by my brother-in-law yesterday.

I agree. It looks like someone wanted a bit of rubber .

Since we've had the car for 12 months and no-one noticed it until now, I am thinking it was done recently.

Might even be related to a missing diamond on my grille.

The only reason i can see for a hole anywhere near there is if someone was running ducting to brakes.
Maybe someone is slowly stealing your car in parts.
At this rate about 15 years from now you might walk out to find only the steering wheel left.
Yeh Im stupid:nuts:
Cheers

Has the car ever had very large aftermarket wheels or very low / compressed / chopped springs fitted??

Ever since my last wheel alignment - one of my tyres scrubs on the plasticy bit on one of the wheel arches, and I'm very tempted to take to it with a hacksaw - but I'm too lazy and I'm just waiting for it to wear hole big enough so it doesn't scub any more.

I reckon you hit it right on the head, i just hacked out a bit on mine cause the wheel (ONLY on the passenger side) scrubs when turning right.... and goddam it sounds baaaaad lol gonna fab another cover in rubber for it though cause got spotties in there!

As others have mentioned, I'd say the inner guard liner was cut out due to rubbing against the tyre.. perhaps it was fitted poorly at one stage, or just "popped" out at speed.
The missing diamond from the front badge is not uncommon, they can be purchased seperately through Mitsu. spares, very cheap! Otherwise, remove them all, and use red paint to fill it in.

My brother has broken is guards like that before just due to driving on dirt roads and flicking up crap and twigs which has broken the guard. once they got a little older, they become a little more brittle and will break easier.

Doesnt cost much at all to buy that internal guard and its not hard to fit.

I would personally leave it there because its there for a reason to stop throwing dirty water and dirt up under your bumper where it will lodge and collect in places you dont want it.
