It should handle the summer heat plus air cond........have the cooling system checked out

im in queensland its about 30 degrees plus and NO air con and she runs hot, but dad does give the poor car a hiding

Just check hoses, water pump and coolant levels, otherwise it should be fine.

its been flushed out and new coolant and has new hoses, wouldnt even be a month ago since these have been replaced

radiator core may be blocked or the thermostat may be sticking there are 2 more possible problems to check out

Faulty thermostat maybe?, are the fans coming on?, could be faulty temp reading, it should handle the heat no problem

im sorry guys the thermostat was replaced asa well and the fans definately work, they are loud

changed the cap? if not it could be leaking. try some Nulon Ultra Cool in it. see how that goes

What is the temp showing on the guage? Whereabouts does it sit?

Mooney

about 3 quarters, but today it went just a bit over

Mooney

and today when we pulled up at home there was water leaking from passenger side back where the motor is we couldnt see exactly where it came from but it stop leaking after about 5 mins

Dont these things have a common leak where the water pump connects to the engine? or is it the 2.6 that has that?

Mooney

yeh the leak has come from the engine so it might be that, worth checking out

would a more quality air filter, run the engine cooler?

1. If it wont run cool change the coolant and use deminerilized water

2. Remove the thermastat completely and it will run a bit cooler maybe even too cool

3. It might be loosing pressure through a hairline crack or the radiator cap loosing pressure

4. Faulty WaterPump

thanks dude, its just got me worried cause dad said it might be a welsh joint and i am buying this car in a few months

it might sound silly but you might have a vapour lock in there somewhere. had one in my tr i'd come home turn motor off then coolant would start bubbling in top radiator hose and water pump. so from previous experience i jacked up the front so radiator is higher than motor. engine took about an extra 1/2 litre or a fraction more. replaced radiator cap let jack down no more problems. might pay to try that

The water leak on the passenger side sounds like the water pump.

Pig of a thing to get at and change. Worth replacing the timing belt too when you go in there. The pumps themselves are not that expensive.

i had a leak on my passenger side and into the passenger footwell. turned out to be a busted heater core. i ran hot and lost ALOT of water and coolant, had to keep topping up til i got it fixed. biatch of a job to fix. pray it aint that.

well it didnt loose too much coolant, just dripped slowly for 5 minutes, so im assuming waterpump will check it out on the weekend. And i hope its not that, but its not leaking into the footwell

Have you tried turning the heater on to full with fan on high and see if you get hot air. There maybe a blockage in any of the heater hoses or heater core as mentioned previously.
As you live in Qld, would the heater be used at all?

I'm using the same theory they tell you to run the A/C during winter to keep the seals and all that stuff from drying out. I wonder if the same with heater, requiring that to be used so to prevent any blockages.

I was told that you replace the water pump when you replace the timing belt. Just replacing the water pump is an expensive job.

Is this a 3.0 or a 2.6?

DO NOT REMOVE YOUR THERMOSTAT as this will cause the coolant to run too fast through the radiator, on colder mornings it will run too cold and chew juice. On hot days under load it will cook.

If it is a v6, the coolant will also gather on the top of the oil filter, it will then run down the cross member and leak from the lhs towards the rear.

If it is a 2.6, the coolant may be coming from a welsch plug or from the timing cover or the manifold gasket. Welsch plugs are not a big deal, the manifold comes off however is a bigger job with the engine in.
