OK, this has happened one too many times, ie, more than once.
My car, 97 TE, 3.0L, manual.

I put the key in thew ignition, turn to acc, the stez powers up, good, next step, turn the key to "on", all the warning lights come on, normal, but what is not normal is the fact that it refused to start, it was turning over, with plenty of compression, but it just wouldnt start. Has anybody experienced this before, and if so, how did you fix it???
Cheers
Chris

Check all spark plugs
Check Start Motor Soleniod
Check Battery Charge
If Manual can you try push starting
If Auto... hmm call RACV or RAC*

Cheers.
Good luck.

You have to see if u have spark, and fuel.

How how do u usually get it started? have u started it since these problems began?

had similar problem myself.

Someone told me it could be dodgy battery.

My car would turn over but not fireup but would eventually go after two or three (sometimes up to 5 or 6) goes of starting it.

Just come back from holidays (3wks) and car was in shed not used that time and battery was flat (was doey when i parked it there). Anyways cut a long story short, got NRMA to jump start it took it for a run, still went flat - repeated process still went flat - bought a new battery (today actually) and yeah away she went. Haven't had starting problem reoccur yet either so yeah maybe you could look into how old ur battery is?

i dont think this is the problem but just in case.
r u using the original key for the car and not a copy because with most newish cars that little black peice around the end of the key holds a microchip in it and the car wont start if the chip isnt near the ignition.
i dont know if the TE magna has this feature but the newish lancers have this.

hey man

i got a 3L TE and i had a similar problem

it ended up being the crank angle sensor, which was faulty, apparently it is a common cause of cars not starting , but it took me ages to figure out why it would start sometimes and not others

My crank angle sensor used to have a split in one of the wires' insulation, so it would turn the spark off and on again, so sometimes the car would surge forward and back.

Took a while to figure it out, eneded up describing the prob to an auto elec and he said "yep sounds like the sensor in the dizzy". $30 later fixed and im SO happy
