Ok got the car booked in next week for replacement pads/service etc and the guys at the workshop I use are trying to convince me that Bendix CT are just as good as Ultimate - I have rang a few other places and this seems to be a mixed opinion some say one some say the other - with there only being a small price difference I am now confused... would there be any point in doing one type on front and different ones on rear?
Anyone who has expereinced the difference or who can offer any useful advice please help me out

Let me just say.

i am due for a pad change and i currently am using Bendix CT's but will definetly be putting Ultimate's

Reason being the general consensous is that Ultimate are worth the extra money.

The is nothing wrong with CT's just Ultimates are better

Ultimates are a pretty loud pad.

In fact, they have been driving me insane with their squeels - especially when in light day to day driving - and yes they were bed in correctly on my car.

And they significantly eat into the disc - expect only 60-80000km from ventilated front discs if u have them.

Have Ultimate's on my cars and always have.

Yes you do get a very light squeal but by no means annoying or loud and isnt even noticable when you are in the car and windows are up.

The only difference i have ever noticed in noise is when i was running genuine discs, the ultimates were dead quiet, then when i replaced them, i went dba standard discs and that is when i started to get a light squeal that i mentioned.

You wont get a better feeling pad than an ultimate. You wont regret it at all.

And as for wearing out discs, yeah they do wear them out quicker, but as dave said, you still get 60-80,000k's out of a set of discs but discs arnt expensive to replace anyway and its a small sacrifice for a great set of brakes.

Just remember, all european cars run similar compound pads to ultimates and they are usually replacing their discs every 40,000k's or less.

Just remember to ask the mechanic to put the anit squeal metal plate back in and also lube up the pins which i'm sure he would.
Some people just throw away the metal plate which helps stop pad squeal.
Maybe ask the mechanic about an anti-squeal lube some people put on. I dont know anything about it but i have a mechanic friend of a friend that says you can put this special lube on the back of pads or something like that, that stops squealing also.

If u want excellent, smooth stopping, get the Ultimates. They are softer than average hence wear and dust faster. What comes to sqealing and excessive disk wear (in a Magna) that might be due to stuck/stiff piston?
Yep, Europeans have soft pads and soft disks - wears out faster, but brakes mad.

I used to own a WRX and I had ultimates on them. After a track weekend the heat from these cracked my front rotors. They are harsh on disc and are very dusty. I replaced both rotors and pads

The pad I replaced them with was Ferodo DS2500, they are great better that ultimates. Less disc wear and less dust. You can get a softer pad which is the Ferodo DS2000. My opinion I would be asking for Ferodos, this is what is going in the Magna later this year.

I use ultimates and mine dont make a sound. but there v-e-r-y dusty. theres people selling ultimates cheap on ebay but in white boxes? I called up bendix and they said its very rare for them to be sold in white boxes, but it does happen occasionally when theres excess stock. so if theres any doubt get the numbers off the pad and give em a call.

just put the general cts on mine and i dont have any complaints. apparently they dont produce a large amount of dust. main selling point for me was they were 50 and the ultimates were 100

Was just looking on the bendix website.

They say they no longer sell Ultimates for the AWD's, just the others.

I had the Advance on my AWD and hated them. They were so loud with squealing and they made a really bad grinding/groaning noise at very low speeds like driving in your garage etc..
They were good at braking, but cant compare it to standard magna's because of the bigger discs and calipers.

May have to go the General CT's next. Would perfer to stick with the proven in my books.
