Had an idea, wanting to know if its viable and worthwhile...
I realised that the Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT runs a 6G72 Twin Turbo engine with 6 speed manual, wondering how easily it would be to swap it with the 6G72 and 5 speed in magnas and if its worth while, it produces 206kw in the GTO which of course is Jap limited. tried searching for anybody else who has had this thought or done it but no luck.
cheers.

MAN thatd friggin go you wouldnt know witch lane you were in
engine is the wrong way around so unless u wanna spend big $$$$ getting it in there its not worth it at all unless u have a 2nd gen magna.
it would be cheaper to turbo yur current engine and u would get more power
Yeah mate, GTO/3000GT is the 'Gearbox on the left' 3L 6G72 varity. Still you'd spend about the same upgrading your fuel lines etc..
3RD Gen's can take the 2.5L V6 TT from the VR4 16G Galant though.. They are quick but a turbo'd aus 3.5 would probably be as quick 'cause its got another litre on the 6A12TT.. You could also use the Mivec FTO 3L..
What I would like to know is, would anyone bother using the 24v SOHC 6G72 as a replacement engine instead of the 12v (more valves, little more performance) and not as exe as the DOHC 24v... I saw one in a Challenger and thought to myself that it might be worth it if you can get the 24v for no extra than the 12v..

The SOHC 24v 6G72 is the stock 3.0l in the 3rd gens. And just for clarification, the 2.5l is a 6A13 :)

numbers numbers..
So the 2nd gens got the 12v 6G72 and the 3rd's got 24v? Is there any advantage REALLY in the 12 extra vales if i were to opt for this instead of the more costly dohc when the time comes? (car has hit 211000 so i'm guessing its not that far away)

Yeah that's right, 2nd gen = 12v 3rd gen = 24v.
You can't opt for SOHC 24v over DOHC 24v as the orientation is wrong...Or do you mean SOHC 12v vs DOHC 24v? If that's the case...the DOHC demolishes it.

Nah, i remember at work seeing a Challenger which was a 24v and i can't remember if its the same orientation, i'm guessing its 3rd gen-ways, why would they bother making 2 of the same engines with different orientation.
doch = $$ i = no $$ = lots of :(

6G72 12v SOHC = 2nd gen
6G72 24v DOHC = 2nd gen
6G74 24v DOHC = 2nd gen
6G72 24v SOHC = 3rd gen
6G74 24v SOHC = 3rd gen
6G72 24v DOHC MIVEC = 3rd gen.
That's all the variants and what they go in.

why have you got this lying around?? depending on $$$ i will take it off ur hands for my 2nd gen... :)
Just curious, how easy would the 6 speed bolt up in a 2nd gen, I know the engine would fit but I don't think I've read anything about the 6 speed being fitted at all. (btw I'm talking about the 6g72 24v DOHC TT) and does the 6g74 24v DOHC bolt into a 2nd gen as easy as the 6g72, it's the first I've heard about the 6g74 fitting in a 2nd gen.
And does anyone know how the turboes are actually set up to the engine, if people know what I mean.
The 2nd gen 3L's have the same 5sp as the GTO's, well the TR's do, don't they KB? which would have enough balls to take a DOHC 72 as both KB and Gotrice have them in and singin'.
No idea on the 6sp. it may be too large and/or require custom/modified CV's and maybe more..

Yep same gearbox, F5M3 if I remember rightly.
The 6 speed manual is a 4wd gearbox. There's a lot of work involved in making it FWD.
And if it's anything like the hassle that Sogg went through (he broke the 4wd to fwd modified box) he just went back to the gen1 box and the last time i spoke to him, it was goin fine..
I guess it maybe different running a 4g63 to a 6g74 but probably the same power levels (if not more again with the 6g)
Why doesn't a 2nd gen 4cyl try a 4g63bt transplant??
