does anyone else have the problem of bottoming out and a harsh ride with lovells superlows all round when you go over a harsh bump on a TL. i didnt change the shocks when i had the springs put in as the car has only done 21000kms. thinking of going back to standard springs!

I had kings superlows in the car and it was ridiculously low. I now have lows in the front and sports in the rear to get a useful car again. The ride even with adjustable konis was shocking with the superlows.

I know someone with lovell superlows all around, cut one coil off in the back (don't ask me I don't know why). Riding with 19s, the front springs bottom out on tons of bump and the car rides like ass. King lows claim a 50mm drop but most people get a 45mm, some only 40mm. I've got king low sp but they're only 30mm, however I can't see why these aren't an oem part. The ride quality is only marginally worse, body roll is reduced dramatically and it's 100% practical, I've tried scraping the towhooks by charging up gutters and it won't happen. Get the king lows if you're after looks and handling, dont mix and match the superlows/lows if you drive the car hard.

Just my 2cents worth. Some people tend to trim the bump stops on the front to give the strut a little more travel but doesnt always eliminate the bottoming out on the front.

I've got king superlows on front and lows on rear...
define bottom out? as in the actual bottom of your car (exhause, drivetrain whatever else is under there) hit the ground whilst driving on a normal road? or is it your mud flaps hitting speed humps? front bar getting knocked when you go down a steep driveway, or your tyres rubbing occasionally) on your gaurds whilst driving?
My car rubs the rear tyres when i have 3 people in the back and there's a 'bounce' (for lack of a better word) in the road. My mudflaps scrape on almost every speed hump i go over, and i sometimes nic my front bar in driveways.

bottoming out is when the shock hits the bump stop

when fitting your new springs did you cut down your bump stops a bit?

Got super lows all round and never bottom out (hit bump stops) unless I go fast over a speed bump which I never do but do get the occasional scrape of the tow hook or exhaust tips here and there. even my 18's dosnt even scrub at the when i have a full car load. maybe your shocks are dead?

Bottoming out is when the suspension has gone though all its possible travel, either hitting bumpstops, shocks compressed to the maximum or the suspension hitting some form of body work not allowing it to travel anymore.

It will happen with superlows.

I have superlows on the front and will bottom out only when hitting a bad bump at speed (eg a man hole cover raised stupidly high at 70km/h). I drive on some pretty average roads (one particular undulating stretch at 100km/k) and in those conditions its fine.

Every car is different (drivers weigh different, carry different loads). Its your car and if you don't like it doing that, change to lows or the standard springs.

Ive fitted King SL on the front, pedders SL in the rear, shocks are pedders gas rider...never had a prob, althou the exhaust has bottomed out a few times...but meh care factor is below zero on that
