Hey there! Just thought I'd post my new TJ Magna VRX that I bought for $15 000. This is my second car, replacing my old RA65 Toyota Celica  I miss it already. The VRX is very basic, no mods whatsoever, but it gives my something to build on. First thing I'll do I reckon is put in my Clarion head unit plus some extra speakers and my Nokia Bluetooth Carkit.

Details and pics are below. Any hints, comments or whateva are welcome!

- 87 400km
- 16" alloy wheels  want to get the Series 2 rims, they are extremely porn :bowrofl:
- standard bodykit, but wouldn't mind getting some ralliart mods
- standard interior, but when i get abit of cash i wouldn't mind upgrading to the ralliart interior, including the guages
- standard radio/CD player, which is extremely standard and will be replaced very soon with my Clarion head unit
- 4 speakers!!! this will quadruple very soon

Thx for all the positive replies!!! Yeah I love the colour, wasn't to sure about it first. Was trying to find the name for it ... and yeah it is Sienna Red, you're all right :D Looks awesome when polished up.

Can't wait to get started on some modding ... still not sure though where to start lol The stereo is the first for sure and speakers. Actually I am kinda dissappointed that the car only came with 4 speakers, it being the VRX and all I woulda expected at least 6 speakers or more. Still makes a good sound with the stock system though. What I was wondering though was if I take out the stock head unit is that going to affect the immobiliser at all? I mean will the car run without it? (I know that may be a silly question  ). Also I noticed the aerial doesn't pop up when the radio is on, and I think that could be because it not automatic, but I'm not to sure, I thought all TJ's had auto aerials!?

Hey mate

What year is the car im pretty sure only the Series 2 come with the electric arial. Do you have a Digital ODO?, Climate Control?

EDIT: just had a look at your pics STOOPID ME. You have a 00 - 01 im assuming ( no passenger air bag, no climate control, and no digi odo) so it doesnt come with electric arial sorry mate. and also you wont effect the immobiliser in any way by removing the stereo as long as you dont cross any wires or blow any fuses etc just common sense stuff goodluck mate and welcome to the forum.

Cheers

Heath

Hey Trinedy, not it a Series 2, so it doesn't have digital ODO or climate control. That really doesn't bother me anyway, but I spose if I really wanted them I could just put them in myself after a while. Yeah I figured that it wasn't an auto aerial, just wanted to make sure, funnily enough I haven't had the need to actually put it up yet cause the reception is 100% perfect.

Thanks re the immobilser comment, I know it was a stupid question, but I just wanted to be sure. Also in regards to what you said about crossing wires and that, do you are does anyone else have a pic that shows what the wires are, or a colour chart or anything? I've tried looking in the techinical section of Aussie Magna but I can't seem to download anything, there aren't any links. Am I the only one with this problem?

BTW just wanted to thank you all for the help and positive comments :D

Err, he hasn't overpaid at all. Most the TJ's that have under 100 000 kms are going for 17-19 grand.

Anyway, ncie ride dude, welcome to AMC :)

Havent any pics mate, do you have a multi meter? it's dead easy to install as long as you have one. Now i think (dont quote me i havent done an install in a magna for a while) that the lrg blue wire is the ignition wire, red is the constant, black is ground and then you need to work out your speaker wires from there. There is also i think Ilimunation (SP) wire and thats yellow i think with a stripe anyways as long as you have a multi meter you cant go wrong

Cheers

Thx. In my old celica I pretty much used a multimeter to suss everything out. Was just a little time consuming, and I did blow a few fuses too. Not something I should boast about being an electrical engineer lol

Well I finally did it! I got my Clarion head unit and speakers in. I also installed my Pioneer 350W 6 x 9's in the back (have no photo of those), I put my new Sony Xpload 270W 6" in the front 2 doors, and I installed the Clarion head deck along with my Nokia Bluetooth Carkit :D

Rather than using a multimeter to suss things out I bout a Aerpro Mitsubishi to ISO and ISO to Clarion wiring harness. Made things so much easier, and took far less time.

Future plans are to install an amp, not sure if it will be powering some more 6 x 9's or a sub, and I also want to install an automatic aerial which will probably be done first.

Erm we got our TL for $14500 15 months ago with half the ks... he has paid way too much.

Other than that it looks pretty tidy, get the series 2 wheels or aftermarket asap :P

guido
21-01-2007, 07:51 PM
Yes well there is a little bit of a difference between a TL ES and a TJ VRX. But thx anyway. I am looking around for the TJ S2 rims ... I wanna buy some, but not in any hurry.

Due to popular demand I have posted up some pics of my VRX which I took today. We've had really sh!tty weather in Adelaide the past couple of days so I've been waiting for good weather. Hope you like!

I did the same (but with my Pioneer headunit). Made it so easy.

Awesome car mate. Sienna Red would have to be my fave colour out of the Magna's. Now all you need is a dark tint and a pimpin set of rims :)

guido
23-01-2007, 05:52 PM
Haha! Dark tint and a new set of rims are on my to do list. I want to get the TJ Series 2 rims, even though they are very hard to find, and when you do find them they're expensive. But I'm not in any rush. I was also thinking of getting some GT stripes down the side perhaps. Something I will look into.

Exactly the same colour as mine. :D

Love it, mines a TF but the colour looks exact. My friends are amazed at how this colour changes so much with the sun.

But yeah, great price (for such low K's) and looks great. Hope you enjoy it.

thx mate!

i really love the colour. It is amazing how it changes in the sun, I love it! Comes up really awesome on a sunny day, it just glows.

I not long ago bought myself a Black 2000 TJ VRX for $14,500 with 108,xxx on the clock with an alright H/U, 2xchannel 400w amp, sub, lowered on a set of 17" rims and debagged.

Great cars, stock or modded.

i have big plans for mine as i believe you do for yours.

good luck man.

Some more updates to my TJ. Today I installed 2 Alpine Tweeters in the front doors. I orginally went to Eddy Wreckers and tried to get the mounts for the standard tweeters, but firstly they didnt fit, they were too small, and secondly they were expensive and I had to buy them with the tweeters, which I didn't want :rant:So I decided to just install them right in the corner sitting in about the same spot as the standard ones. They look great, and they sound great. Pics attached below.

More updates very soon. :D

Definately something I'm planning soon. Wanna get the Series 2 rims first, and they not really that cheap cause they are rare and in such hi demand. Wanna do the tinting though.

Hey mate. I have done a few mods actually. I should post some pics up. I've put in an Eonon touch screen head unit, which works sweeeeeeeeeet!!!! Got an inbuilt GPS and Bluetooth.

Also got the windows tinted finally. And am hoping to get the car detail and paint protected.

Will post some photos up soon.
