Howdy all
Ive just bought a new set of LED tubes and I was wondering about two things
1. What is the easiest way to run the wires under the console whilst still having the controls usable( it has a switch that allows me to select between a constant on mode or a pulse with the music mode)?
2. It has a cigarette lighter power plug and I need the socket for my phone charger, so my second question is how can I wire it up using existing power wires ( I initially thought of connecting it into the lighting plug for the ash tray light). Preferably the easiest way possible.
the plug(pic 1)
what it looks like when they are on(pic 2)
Sorry about the pics I took them with my phone
Any help with this would be great
Thanks

I cant answer your first question but i can have a stab at the second one.

It depends on how you want the to turn on, i.e either on all the time, on when the headlights are on, you want them to work with the door triggers or you wanna use a manual switch?

Depending on the situation you need to wire them up differently. In all cases your gonna need to find a permanent power source, i.e radio, interior light im not to sure about the ashtray light as i dont have an ashtray in my magna so dont know if its permanent. Easiest way to find one for you to use is tap into the fuse box and see whats constantly live and then go from there.

If you wanna hook them up to your door switches and have a manual switch as well ill post up a schematic for ya. I did it in my older car, i put a 12" blue neon in each footwell that come on with the interior light and have a manual switch. Although i never finished mine, coz when i used the manual switch it was triggering the door switch.

EDIT:

Im having some trouble finding the schematics so ill keep searching coz im bored as hell.

EDIT 2:

I couldnt find the schematic but i found my old post on CAA and this is what i should have used:

+12 to pin 30 and 85.
Pin 87 to neon positive.
Pin 86 to earth via door switch.
Overide switch - wire from pin 30 to switch then to pin 87.

Hope that helps if your going that way.

Thats a pretty good explination. ive tried a neon in the boot that turns on with the boot opening and i did that throught the normal boot light, but with these have a postitve wire and a negative wire and thats what is confusing me, positive to a a constant power/ accsories power, but what do i conect the negative wire too?
thanks

You can buy 4 into 1 ciggie lighter adaptors.
So you can use your LED Tube when you want and still have 3 other sockets free.

If you really CBF'd with it all, Try this mate...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FOUR-TUBE-MILLION-COLOUR-INTERIOR-LED-NEON-KIT_W0QQitemZ280068302486QQihZ018QQcategoryZ102559 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

All you needa do is wire it to + and then ground.
you get a remote and yeah its wicked. Can controll front and rear, rear, or just fronts, or all! any color, and/or beat to the music.
Works out to about the same price as buying 4 LED tubes seperatly.

Sorry it took so long to reply, i couldnt find the bloody thread.

If your still interested i went back and found more info.

This is how i actually did mine:

+12 to the 12V of the neon (fused - 5A tops)
gnd of the neon to pin 30 of relay
pin 87 to gnd
pin 86 to +12V (fused 1A tops)
pin 85 to door pin

to be able to switch on via a switch simply hookup a switch between pin 85 and 87.

This is working on the -ve side to do the switching and not the +ve. To stop the manual switch turning on the interior light put a diode behind the switch, this will stop power going back and turning on the interior light. Someone with more electrical experience needs to answer this one, i only know the basics.

The other way i posted earlier uses the +ve side to do the switching and im sorry but i have no idea where the -ve of the neon to go. I would presume earth.
