Hi,

today i started spray painting my cai, then i put in verada centre interior light. both of those went fine but i had problems wiring my clock in.

Ok i had the idea that; C pin 1 = 12v wired that in fine after checking with multimetre
I pin 2 = 12v accesories; found that and hooked it up
I pin 3 = dimmer; i actually found a dimmer... power comes on with parkers and changes voltage (1v) with turn of the dimmer thingy
E pin 4 = earth; i earthed this to something in under the dash, checked it was suitable by connecting to 12v and earthed there.

I didnt screw the earth in or solder it though; just put it through a hole and taped it down.

Everything then worked fine except the clock light wasn't coming on. It had when on 12v...

I then also noticed i'd hooked up pin 2 to the acc around the outside of one of the arms in the dash; the clock was working at this stage. So i undid it and re soldered.

Funky Results;
*clock light comes on with acc then turns off when i turn the headlights/parkers on.
*clock doesnt tell the time and i can't change it anymore

On the clock there is CIIE, with a plus above the c on the one end and a neg sign on the other. I assumed the c meant constant power as it was above the +. And e the earth.

Could it be that the wiring i've used is unsuitable for car's 12v as unlike normal wiring with many little wires it's just one big one. I got it from a small hardware store ages... and it was the only stuff he had. Some things seemed to drop 1 or 2 volts across it... Its like the stuff that runs from your 240v to a alarm clock or cd player at home...

could it also be that i haven't secured the earth?

At that stage i'd been messing with the car for like 3hrs so i got over it...

thanks for any help, i understand if some thing need better explaination

peace out.

99% sure its a bad earth connection... i mean without actually looking at it

it was.

But now the clock light is coming on with the acc  and staying on with the parkersheadlights coming on; i definately connected it to the dimmer.

And whats worse is the fuse for my dials blew... does anyone know what wouldve caused this?? i havent replaced the fuse yet.

I might just connect up the dimmer wire to the acc`

There's a few threads, main one is here (http://aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30556).

the basics seem to be:

C is clock+, permanent power

I+ is illumination positive

I- is illumination negative, either earth this or somehow it fits in with the dimming system.

E is earth for the clock.

If you want to stuff around testing things, and are OK around PC hardware, you can always stuff some test wires into the yellow (+12V) and black of a spare harddrive power connector. Saves messing around in the car. That's how I figured out the wiring for my clock, also pre-tested my new stereo the other night.

yeah thanks thats how i wired this up. Have figured out that the 3rd pin I(-) is connected to the right dimming wire (green, white stripe) but it might be at the wrong place or something, phil is helping me.
Blew the tail-light fuse which runs the dimming wire... It was connected right.

Short could've been that i forgot to cover the dimmer wire... lol

WTF i connected it up to the acc now the clock light doesn't come on at all... *** given up for an amount of time.

White CAI looks cool.

Can someone who has a clock standard in their TR / TS or verada tell me if the light in the clock only comes on with the tail/headlights and if it is dimmable.
From what I can see in the circuits it should only come on with the lights and not be able to be dimmed as pin 3 is fed from the tail light relay which is also the power feed to the dimmer.

Cheers
Phil

On my clock that I put in the TS the wires are red/black + main power for the clock which I connected to the red/green wire (there are 2 red/green wires, it's the thin 1) that powers the radio, black - clock , connected to the radio earth black wire, green/white is for the clock light, connected to the ciggy light also green/white and the black/yellow is earth for the clock light. If the black/yellow wire gets 12 volts what happens then is that when the ignition is on the clock light is on aswell, but as soon as you turn your headligths on the clock light goes out.The clock light doesn't dim but I think it's suppose to, it did on the TS SE wagon that used to own.

OK that works on my second train of thought in which you have full illumination with heads off and when heads on pin 3 is used to activate dimming within clock so you get a dull light at night, some head units have this set up.

rewired it remember, it's now on acc and the light isn't working  Clock is still working finemight look at it after cricket today... arghhh fielding and i'm hella tired

I'm not exactly sure, but it looks like I wired the "I+" to the illumination cable from the stock stereo setup. Definitely only lights up when lights are on, not Acc.
It's the green/white wire in the stereo loom.

Huh, just checked my clock, funnily enough the original I+ wire is also green/white :D

Maybe the I- goes to the dimming line that you found?

Me thinks that you connect the green/white + wire to the ciggy green/white + and the black/yellow - wire to the ciggy black - wire the clock light should dim.I might try that and see what happens.

ok just earthed the dimmer wire, clock light comes on now with acc... very happy.

so pin 1 = 12v
pin 2 = 12v acc
pin 3&4 = earth to car body
