im a noob wen it comes to all this kind of suff. i was wondering wat is theworst case scenario if i run a sub which has a nominal power rating of 300 rms to an amp which produces produces the same amount of power. also are there any issues wif underpowering subs.
also what is the cheapest amp i can get to power a 500rms sub, (not some el cheapo brand amp)

Do you mean the amp produces 300w max? or rms?
If rms then i really cant see any problem...

the amp produces 300 rms
Mr_Roberto

if your amp puts out 300watts rms then you wont have a problem
tho it is better to have slightly more power so you dont over work the sub by turning the gain down abit

one question
Precision Response Car Amp 2x150WRMS
The AA-0424 supercedes the popular AA-0434 2 x 150WRMS amplifier, but offers even more power output with a massive 500WRMS x 1 when bridged into a 4ohm load – making this ideal for powering two of the new Precision Response dual 4ohm subwoofers in series/parallel wiring. Variable bass EQ of up to 18dB is included, as is a remote level controller to mount on your dash or centre console, while the fully variable high and low pass filters make this amp equally useful for powering subwoofers or full range speaker systems. At $249 this is easily one of the best value 2-channel amplifiers on the market today.
Specifications:
Power / channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 150WRMS x 2
Power / channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 255WRMS x 2
Power / bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 500WRMS x 1
Signal/Noise ratio: >90dB
Input sensitivity: 200mV to 5V
Low pass filter: 50 - 500Hz @ 12dB/octave
High pass filter: 50 - 500Hz @ 12dB/octave
Bass boost: 0 -18dB @ 50Hz
Pass thru RCA: Yes
Remote level controller: Yes
Dimensions: 340(L) x 258(W) x 50mm(D)
QTY
1+ $249.95
2+ $225.00
5+ $199.95
im assuming that this amp will be capable of power a 500rms sub
Mr_Roberto
14-01-2007, 02:31 PM
i would say thats a good price for that amp
it can power a 500watt rms sub but only if the sub can be wired up as 4ohms
Lenny

will that jaycar amp be ble to power this
Mr_Roberto
14-01-2007, 02:44 PM
that amp wont work with that sub because the subs a 4ohm and theres no way that you can wire it up as a 4ohm
the only way is to have two of them
you best bet would to have a look at the monoblocks or find a 2ohm sub
Lenny
14-01-2007, 02:46 PM
bummer thanks for that. any recommendation on amps to run the sub, around price range of the jaycar. so wat is the exact type of amp i need to run this sub
Mr_Roberto
14-01-2007, 02:55 PM
you'll need to find an amp that does 500watts rms at 2ohms
and thats gonna be pricey
your better off seeing if that sub comes in 2ohm which it should or find one similar in 2ohm

im assuming that this amp will be capable of power a 500rms sub
Remember you'll never get the full 500w... because its quoted at the 14.4v benchmark; & theres no feasible way to run a full 14.4v to the amp in a street car environment.
Thats why its always best to get an overpower amp. ;)

these are another sub i was looking at picking up.
what amp do you guys recommend me pick for this sub in the 250 mark. wat exactly does Power / bridged @ 4ohm 14.4V: 500WRMS x 1 mean
Mr_Roberto
14-01-2007, 04:42 PM
jbl are good subs worth there money
some members have got them
that sub will be good with that 2ch amp
as for your other question about 500watts at 4ohm bridge 14.4volts is normally when you car is running thats how many volts is running to the amp but you'll get voltage drop depending on where the amp is
there would be another power figure at 12 volts, this is when the car is off

Great subs
Can be wired in 1, 2, or 4 ohm configuration.
Ive even convinced 2 mates to buy them with the factory boxes...And they love them too.
Great Sub IMO

1) Yep
2) you adjust the settings on the amp to let the sub/s play below a certain frequency and so on
3) Yep
4) And yep, but would always go 4 gauge becuase it saves you upgrading later on down the track
Mr_Roberto
15-01-2007, 05:12 PM
you need to make sure that the settings for each channel are all the same
you dont want to do any damage to the subs
and yeah as TUFFTR said run 4ga incase you wanna add another amp for your speakers cause then all you need in a distrobusion block and some 8ga wire

Yeah they are Dual voice coil
So if you wire both +'s to the + on the amp and both -'s to the - on the amp you will get one resistance
but if you link them + to - to + to - (Bold being what you connect to the amp)
you will get another resistance, again it depnds on your amp.
Im pretty sure with the response 4channel it can go down to 2ohm.
So doing it the last way will be better.
Can help you wire them in if need be
