Well... emptied my boot today...

Sits like a 4x4 lol.

Gonna start over. My question is, does anybody have any good ideas or pics of false floor builds? Need to house 2 mids sized amps. (about 400x300x60 each).

Cheers.

Wat did you have in your boot to make it so low? Cement?

nah just a few bodies...

LOL... quite a bit of ****. Stereo; big **** sub box & sub, 2 amps, **** load of wood for floor; and a whole bunch of other misc stuff that some how finds its way to be in the car. Surprisingly though, no spare tyre and tools. If i did she woulda sat like rear end was on ultras lol.

Soo.. no ideas anybody? Guess i'll have to just buy some wood and go the hack. Do a few test designs.

Even use cardboard man
Thats what i used to test everything out to make sure it fitted

lol put your amps behind each tail light on the inside of the rear qtr panel
they will fit perfect..
then place ur subs directly under the parcel shelf (orientation is up to you)
make a 7mm custom floor board for (spare tyre removal trust me... its a pain to pull subs out for a tyre)

Thats where i had them previously, but for the sake of boot space i much rather the false floor option. (i prefer the boot width, carrying fishing rods etc..). I took my spare out of the car lol so no issues with removing that from beneath the install.

Cheers for the input mate.

i dont know about your state, but isnt it illegial to have no spare?? i nearly got a defect for my old car cause the tyre wasnt at the correct pressure.......

its illegal to have no spare and a jack. Or a spare and no jack. But not illegal to have no spare and no jack afaik.

One or the other

Really?

The way i thought it was, either way it was legal; as long as the spare is fastened down correctly, has sufficient pressure & is not dangerous in any way when fitted to the vehicle.

Having trouble with the floor design... its a ***** as the boot floor curves upward towards the rear. Does anybody have any ideas or tips on how they've done theirs?

what are you putting in your boot?
how many amps, subs etc.
as for the bit that curves up if your making a boarder for you false floor just make it abit smaller so theres about a 10mm gap around the boot, then just wack a cover sheet on

Trying to fit, 2 amps & 2 12" subs.. one of the amps being a big hairy bastard :doubt: 400x260... its proving hard to fit anywhere. lol

Excuse the wiring mess for the moment...
The step/raise starts at the white line and ends up near the ski hatch, and is about a 2" incline difference from the very high to lowest point.

for the floor i would do a build up so its all even as in you make little upstands for abit a MDF to sit on them to act as the floor
i take it you still want access to your spare so put your biggest amp in the center towards the rear of the boot, sub box will be sitting against the back seat? so if you have enough room between the amp and sub box wack in your other amp between them or just make a side panel for it
using some perspex over the top of the amp so you can still see it will look good but the amp will need the right air flow, some people install computer fans to keep the amp cool

Ahh k yeh.. the biggest problem right now is that i dont have any way to get large sheets of MDF home.. all i can fit in the car is x900mm. So i have to join 2 parts for the floor & it tends to sag quite severely over the canyon that is the spare well. No i dont need access to my spare at all... i've survived for the past 9 months without one so it wont be going back in. I'd actually prefer to have the amp completely hidden if possible. Shiny things in my boot tend to get damaged or stolen real quick lol.

haha you will have to join the floor board...you can't get it in otherwise LOL
but the easiest solution is to screw a block underneath the join to prop it up :)

sorry to hijack but im wondering how you attach the wooden floor to the metal car body?? i have to do this soon...

I also vote lay some piers to jack it up at the back, then you can also cut out some wood to get to the bottom of amps and air will be able to circulate...; hope that makes sense.

Please document the false floor building for my future reference :D

peace out

I just got quoted around $600 for a false floor, beauty board across the front of the sub, amps mounted flush in the sides near the tail lights, all wiring hidden nicely and carpeted.
Is this a fair price? Just wondering if its worth me trying to do it, as I don't have very many spare weekends...

Do you mean like a pillar to go between the metal body and the wood to hold it up?
Or just a block between the two pieces? <<because i tried that and it still didnt seem sturdy enough.

Woah 600!? Does that include fibreglassing of the sub enclosure... still seems a bit pricey for something that could easily be done in a few weekends on your own. Diy will probably end up costing you 1/3 of that price.

lol i mean join the boards strategically. :) you have to work it out depending on how you put everything in...
but basically lift the entire floor (about 2") so that it sits completely flat (natural down slope from ski hole to back)
then you can place addins to hold the floor up once you have designed it... (for example i have a twin butterfly design in mine.. (folds in the middle and the side fold in) the whole thing can come right out of the boot if i need it 2

hehehe yeh well i figured that much :P .. i was talking about where you said

screw a block underneath the join to prop it up

The floor itself is a son of a ***** to fit... and the worst part is trying to get it at the right level height. lol

Nice idea with the folding/butterfly design. :D

Heres my progress so far.. i thought i'd jam this thing in the corner to hold some gear. I always keep a litre of oil and a couple of litres of coolant.. & they usually just float around the boot. The coolant pissed everywhere once as it punctured itself on a piece of redgum i was carrying for a mate. lol so yeh...

Nice design( i will be doing a similar thing to mine soon (stupid side panel is broken lol and all the loose bits fall down the side of the panel lol) although i wouldn't have used such a thick MDF (adds lots of weight..)
4 - 5mm would have done just as good a job and would have had more than enuf strength..
looks like you have used about 15 + mm there

place a block underneath each half (length ways) this way you have a strength point on the join (which will sit on the body work inside the boot)

Well its all i had at home... wasnt doing another 20km trip to bunnings just for some 12mm. lol

Hopefully the added weight drops the rear end a bit anyway...lol

I'm not worried about weight... my car's slow as it is... lol

Its not a preformance car.. so i've said to myself, might aswell concentrate on interior/stereo & make it a comfy cruiser. My next car will be performance oriented. :D

Hey firestorm that looks sweet as! Coming along nice. Are you planning to put perspex or something clear on the roof of the amp hole? Any lighting? :D

Man im so tempted to just splurge out and order like $5,000 worth of audio equipment/materials and work on the boot this weekend!

Ahhh!!! Decision, decisions!

Umm i'm thinking of just a carpeted mdf cover... i wanna keep things kinda stock looking. As for lighting, yeh nothing too fancy for me... probably a couple of blue tubes & that'd do.

The amp used to live in a plastic box in the boot (lol dont ask.... ok... boot used to leak water LOL) anyway while it was living in that box it never got hot at all.... i'll probably put an 80 or 120mm fan under the new amp.. .seeing as how it'll be doing all the work driving the subs... but that cheap one there should live lol.

Yeh what i'm saying is the fans will be definately going in... but not until i get the new amp in about 3-4 weeks time. The whole setup is temporarily in. It still needs to come back out (when i get amp & sub) to have a few things finished/touched up. New sub enclosure needs to be built and 1/4 panels & parcel shelf will need to be sound deadened. New wiring will be run & some extra lighting will be thrown in too. But not for the moment.. for now i'm just saving $ and collecting equipment so its all ready to roll when i take it out again. :) I have some old blue LED case fans lying around somewhere... just need to find the bastards.

Basically the way its staying for now... last thing to do is rip that ****ing neon off and make a beauty board for the sub box to hide it.
