well today, with the aid of an ever so kind concrete gutter, i was able to grazed 3 of the 5 spokes and half the lip of my front left rim.
i was driving back with 2 boxes of hot chips for me andsome mates when one of the boxes started to tip. Not wanting to get chips and chicken salt all over over my passenger seat i grabbed the box and put it back where it belongs, then looked up only to find i was headed straight for a gutter on a bend in the road
travelling about 50/60km i yanked the wheel in vain only to hit and literally bounce off this evil gutter who took chunks of my fully sick rims lol. i drove home very slowly, praying that i hadnt structurally damaged the rim.
when i got home i had a look to find the eyesore of a graze but luckily no bends or buckles, Thankyou Jesus! anyways, im wanting to know if this sort of thing is fixable or i just need a rim? ill have some pix up tomorrow, thanx guys! :D

its funny the things we put infront of the risk of damageing our cars and possibly killing ourselves... this doesnt really answer your question but i was talking about this with a mate the other day, and this is yet another prime example... i know we all do it with out thinkin, you drop a chip, and then you start trying to find it! taking your eyes off the road etc... but yeh, im guilty of this, i dropped a cheese burger... started looking for it and ended up with a 1500 dollar repair bill, i just find it amazing we'd all rather find that elusive chip and run the risk of doind some seriouse damage than just let it be and get it when you've stopped the car, just my little observation for the week lol

ps. yes it is repairable, but the way i see it, unless you got expensive, rare rims, i wouldnt bother... you can only see the scratches up close, my old rims were totally f*cked as far as scratches go, but i kept em clean and from 3 meters away they looked awesome haha

yeh true, but the largest graze is about as big as two 50 cent coins and stands out like a big fat mole on someones face lol, ps i have nothign against moles :D

You should be able to find someone who specializes in this stuff. Ring around, and then see what is going to be the best option, repair, one new rim or a full new set...could use it as an excuse to get new rims.

I did a very similar thing about a month ago in my old car, altho this time it was a near empty can of coke. Driving down the highway, can spills, i go to grab it, next thing i know im heading for a kerb, i mount the kerb...result...small buckle in one of my rims :( I was so angry at myself after for doing such a stupid thing, i mean i was lucky to get away with a damaged rim, i could of done some serious damage to not only myself but to someone else. Since then i have refused to have an open drink or have food for myself in the car. I still get pissed off about it now to some extent.

But i think that everyone has had some lack of judgement such as this while driving as a car. Best thing is to learn from it and more importantly not do it again! haha.

Depends on the type of rim (metal, wether it's machined, painted or polished etc) as to wether its repairable - how completely it will be repaired and how much it costs.

I was refered to a place called "race engineering" in Sumner park when I was looking at repairing the wheels on a car I purchased about a year ago. It turned out it wasn't going to be cheap, required machining and repainting.

So I just stuck those wheels on the missus car.

take it to an aluminium engineering shop... they will easy fix it....
if all else fails you could fix it urself (depending how deep the rashes are..)
with a bit of elbow grease and some sand paper...

They seem to be painted alloy?
Sand back to smooth. If the damage is only "paint deep", get undercoat which has filing properties (they apparently exist, haven't tried yet my self tho). Keep applying coats until level with silver color. Then use silver to finish.
If the scratches are very deep to metal, u might need to get metal filler paste and do it that way.
Obviously this takes lot of time in between coats and all the sanding etc. And u need to use different grade sand papers at different stages.
Good luck.

Next time ppl, pack your stuff so that they don't fly around in the cabin.... :) I personally dislike any loose items in the cabin. Well, except my self of course!!!

u could fix that urself. just get some wet and dry sand papper ,clear paint in a can and some polishing stuff. take a couple of hours and hand sand it starting with 200 grit and work ur way to 1200 grit. then polish the hell out of it then give it a coat of clear to ensure that it stays polished. it will just take time and elbow grease:D

nah ive seen worse repaired
they will machine the lip of the rim and rub back the spokes then respray it
BUT in saying that, its only a small rim, could work out cheaper to buy a new one

hmmmmm, dunno if i wanna try fixing it myself, i could make it even worse. however ill probly get another rim when i get new tyres, and ill use this grazed one as a spare...

if it's already damaged how can u make it worse:nuts: but it's not all that bad of a scratch anyway.

I did the same thing mate.
Went to pick some food up from the passengers seat, moved the wheel a bit...and next thing i know BANG ive mounted the gutter at 70kays and JUST missed a pole.

1km Away from work the car starts going all wobbly on me, well i dented the rim pretty good (was a stocky and dented it in a good 2") but luckily had a spare.
Mind you this was in my dads falcon.
Scary stuff, really learnt me a lesson

That doesn't look so bad... when I first got my magna the front right hand side alloy was totally messed... huge grazes approx 7 cms long around the edge and simlar damage up one of the spokes. I got the touch up guys to come out n have a look and he fixed it up perfectly for $90. Was definitely worth it. You cannot notice any damage at all.

Unfortunately i scratched the other side a few weeks later... its much smaller though =/.

You will still end up scraping the rim. :( I already replaced 2 of mine.

Yeah but it's not as bad as hitting the rest of the rim. You can live with a little graze, but half the rim :headbange
