Well I have finished my modding for a while. I have just got the car back after fitting stage one cams and gears, and Greddy e-manage:D . Although the figures of 175HP dont represent the higher figures some have associated with these mods, I went rather with more low to mid improvements over the top end. Lets face it, who screams around at 5500rpm+ all the time? Having said that the first sheet reads for advance timing at 4.5 degrees and then the emanage tuned on that, the second reads with the Emanage and the cams at 2 deg. retarded. The third a dyno this time last year. Being an Auto it really started to lose bottom end(as you can see) the further it was retarded, of course gaining at the top. I decided on a low down increase over top end h.p so i could get the thing moving in a hurry, but still have plenty for overtaking etc. I am happy after driving it...having taken to 6200rpm and still keeps pulling like a 14 yr old boy with a playboy magazine:shock: . I suppose the 1/4 mile will tell a tale. The AFR was at constant 12.7- 12.9 thru out the range. Very good.
Anyway I am so way out of money now right now i wont be doing much for a while...'cept maybe a few cruises this year.

And before you ask, I was unable to get a before figure(on this dyno) as I wanted a quick turn around and there was another car on the dyno in front of me, so I opted to use my previous figures as a comparison.

Nice one. Note for the future though, get them to do all your dyno sheets on the same scale.. hard to compare between the different sheets when some have RPM and some have KPH :)

that should work out to just a smidge under 130kW atw, not bad for an auto with some mild mods! chuck a manual in and watch that climb to over 185-190hp atw instantly

Good stuff mate. But the big question is - how is it to drive??

You have a 5spd tippy don't you?? any wheelspin in 1st gear?

Good result man. Nice flat torque curve should make it nice and driveable. Like Mike said, what's it like to drive?

Very nice.. All you need now is a little bit of forced induction..:P

Yeah, it bores me when some ppl ignore the lack of performance at 2-3 G range and quote that "we drive flat out anyway". Well, no we don't.....
Very good to see positive results. Enter your 1/4 results to Bain's list once u've done the strip.

still keeps pulling like a 14 yr old boy with a playboy magazine:shock: .

I almost take offense to that... lucky i'm not 4 anymore :P .

Wow that torque curve is awesome! Good job mate, now go drive a stock 3rd gen and feel the difference lol.

Yes I do. Actually I have only driven it home and nothing since....As you know they come with TCL standard, so no wheel spin, but that would change I think when it is turned off. I will let you know.....To drive....Well I am smiling a s**t load more. Much more pleasurable to drive(without getting back to the 14yr old and his mag.) Revs so much nicer and has a great sound from inside the car. more fun.
how is it to drive?? maybe we swap and compare notes:shifty:

I was up for it but am going camping (long weekend). next time perhaps. still be struggling to get some of those times too I think:doubt:

Results look good, and interesting results with teh camshaft timing. I remember speaking to your mechanic about the timing changes.

Just a quick question though - why is it tuned to run so rich? Naturally aspirated cars run best between 13.0 - 13.5 : 1 air fuel ratio for best performance. Running in the 12.8 - 12.9 is sacrificing a lot of power, espeically if this is being read after the cat converter as well because that means that its actually running richer than that at the engine.

Most of all our tuning in perth is run under 4000 rpm at around 13.5 and above 4000 at around 13.3. May be worthwhile speaking to your tuner, cause you should pick up at least another 5 - 10hp easily and more torque if you leaned it out some more on the air/fuel ratio's.

BUt still good results and sounds like its all gone well for you.

I mentioned this and the tuner said it ran best at these figures???? i am no expert so can not comment too much. Maybe a retune in the future. Still happy with it tho. Better than dying in the **** as it was last year.

Did you change the valve springs? How is the idle? Thanks

Magtone
19-01-2007, 03:51 PM
No spring change as they are stage one cams and gears. The idle is niiiice. Probably need to reset base idle using MUT, but engine idle a little lumpier...not much but noticable. Engine sounds alot smoother.

a good mater of mine who has modded many MANY cars himself was sayin g that valve springs is a mod in its self that certain sprngs ( stiffer ones) can encoyurage for rev and softer ones can encourage a lil more low end. weather this is true or not i am unsure
