Sorry to start another thread on the magna Headlamp....
Yes, I have gone through the excellent sticky FAQ but lot of posts in it have been done a while ago....
I had specific questions, which hopefully someone can answer for me.
I have a TF sports and was unsure what globe it takes for normal driving lights (not the high beam). I think it is H4 but wanted confirmation.
Secondly, if it is indeed H4, some instructions on how to change it.
Importantly the type of globe to change it to!!
After much reading, IMHO, I think the following are the preferences for decent globes?
Philips DiamondVision
Philips Crystan Vision
Philips Visionplus
Narva Atric Blue
Anyone use the Power2Night (http://www.autolamps-online.com/halogen/gt150centre.htm) as they seems interesting.
Where are the above globes available in NSW and at roughly what cost.
Lastly, and correct me if Im wrong there, parras are no better than the standard headlamp unit in the Magna and one should avoid no name brands at any cost to ensure fellow motorists are not subject to glare from your headlights and to ensure you reamain within RTA legalities and to ensure you do not melt your wiring?
Thanks guys

You didn't search did you :doubt:
All the Phillips globes you've listed are of exceptional quality, and I've been recommended the DiamondVision globes countless times. You should definitely avoid no name brands, simply for the reason that they are poor quality and prone to failure.
Depending on the generation of magna you have, parabolics are either better or worse. In the Second Gens, the parabolics (in my opinion) are far better than the standard headlights, however in Third Gens, the parabolics are rather piss poor compared to stock headlights, but who really cares if that is the case anyway, they look good!

I did, I did. The number of threads relating to this is huge but they are all over the place and do not specifically answer my questions
Agree with you re the DiamondVision but to be honest with you the prices quoted here for the DiamondVision - of upto $160 for a pair - are out of my league. Hence was looking for a compromise.
Also these posts were done a while ago, so wanted to know if the prices are still static and is there anything else in the market?

You got to be kidding if you really did a search. Maybe we should HAVE a Permanant GLOBES thread? talking about Globes and Leds maybe. lol
Globes for standard is H4 for lowbeams, H1 for highbeams.
Stay on the philips globes thread rather than a new one, go and pm the person who has tried Power2Night GT.
There are pictures there. Diamond Visions dont cost that much if you find it from the right places or contacts.
As for changing the globes?
Good luck if this your first time, prepare a glass of ice water and do it in the day.
There are clips securing the globes. These clips is sort of a push down and outwards to release them.
1.Do the one with the washer bottle, release the water bottle for more access.
2.unplug the 3pin plug, jerking it bit by bit if have to.
3. Release the rubble seal around the globe
4. Take a rest and examine the globe how it is cliped.
5. Remove clip to remove globe.
6. Think whether you want to change your parkers at this stage
7. Change your globe and reverse order.
For the battery side, some reomve the battery for better access. Covers etc.
Depending on how small your hands are and how good you are to release the globes.
For first timers it may be pain in the ass.
Oh by now you should drink your ice water and rest your sore thumbs.
According to our expert Heath, the 3rd Gens do not have good lights for Parabolics. However, you find in due time you want a set which I think there is a set on sale now. They dont come by easy and cost as much as $400-500 a set easily. And if you think they are expensive, the dealers sell each for $450.
To further help the parabolics when driving in country roads you may want to install fog lamps, and the weirdest part is They are MORE expensive then parabolics!!! $475 each!
The parabolics are always a good investment as you do not usually loose much value on it unlike Rims etc. They make your car look very slik and nice, ultimately is a mod where quite a number will change them.
Cheers!

Globes for standard is H4 for lowbeams, H1 for highbeams.
You say this but in the Magna Headlamp FAQ
http://aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23184
in post#9 it clearly states
"Standard headlamp high beam - H4 55/60W
Standard headlamp low beam - H1 55W"
Now you know what threw me off.
Also the ROBBOS I went to, said 90% of the cars use H4, and he was pushing some Taiwanese brand claiming that they were very good. He also said not to buy Narva (Robbos do not sell them anyway) as they are made in China?

Thanks for this. It would indeed be the first time I will be changing globes.

Ok... I think there was a typo about those globes. Anyhow I think I did wrote further in the thread as confirmation.
H4 is standard lowbeam
H1 for standard and parabolic highbeams. TAKE NOTE of the GLOBE holder!! many have thought it wasnt H1 you have to take the globe off from the holder. Same thing applies to Parabolics H7.
H7 for parabolics lowbeam
Yeah I see your point, it was a typo. Maybe Heathyoung could edit the old thread. (heath or Moderators please update the typo please?)
Yes please change during the day time when you can see. The parkers is also hell if they have not been changed before as it would be stuck tight.
Let me know if you still have problems.
On the subject of globes, they vary. I have Diamonds that did not lasted me a year because I used them Extensively on road trips. Any car shop will push whatever product that they currently hold do not fall for it.
I only love Philips, Osram or Narva. The rest of those are all wannabes and you still can tell a good difference in the beam projected.
