Since the cruise and using that crappy shell petrol my car (mainly only when I start it) will blow out a bit of smoke.

Causes?

It seems like it's lost a bit of power as well, and she hasn't been driving for about a week, but upon starting her back up...smokey.. idle is a bit higher than usual but nothing major, and it seems like the radiator is getting a bit hotter than usual, but everything looks to be good.

Any help is appreciated (btw putting my parra's on tonight)

It's in dyre needs of a service as I've already done 11,000kms cash is just the issue.

What coloured smoke? Black means too rich a mixture and blue means its burning oil.
In both cases, you'll loose a bit of power.

if its only on start up could be steam. check your radiator fluids to see if you can see a milky substance as well.

mine does blue smoke sometimes on start up and when idleing for a long time. this is caused by the valve stem seals

hrmmm well I'll see how it goes tomorrow, might have flushed out all that **** shell petrol. However the radiator has been feeling a bit hotter than usual lately.

White smoke on start up is just the water in your exhaust boiling away, this is normal.

If however you have white smoke ALL the time you have a problem, either a cracked head or a blown head gasket, check both your oil and your coolant, if you oil in milky STOP USING THE CAR, if your water is milky, STOP USING THE CAR.

Well the overflow looks to be the same color (green), haven't checked the radiator though.

And it's not constant, but I remember on the cruise someone said they saw some smoke, not sure if it was my car though.

sounds like valve stem seals to me.. do a search and u'll find a bit of info

oil drips thru when the engine is idle and burns up on startup and pours out of the exhaust. eventually the seals will wear more and more, more smoke on startup - then constant pouring of smoke when the oil is hot and thin.

try using a thicker oil, penrite hpr-30 is usually good. if ur seals arent too bad, that might be a temp solution.

the seals itself only cost like $30 or less.. but the labor of putting them on is the pricey bit, i got mine done for around $200ish.. some places charge alot more. so shop around.. ull find prices between $600 and $400.

do it when the smoke starts gettin worse, right now on startup isnt so bad. when it starts flooding the streets, then ur gonna have to do em lol

basically.. start saving some money for this

Yeh mate... it was whenwe left the carpark at willy beach.. so your car would have been cold. Look i wouldnt worry too much about it. If everything 'feels' like its running ok, then its more than likely fine. Just double check your oil and coolant. Make sure its all nice and fresh. & FFS chage your oil!! :P Its only $30-40 to change it yaself lol.

Yeah I changed oil about 3,000kms ago.

Oil is good, it's actually holding the level fine now.

Coolant looks clean and good, and the radiator doesn't look milky at all, clear is all I could see. It stopped this morning, I bet it was just that **** house shell petrol

I'd say so then.. probably excess water vapour in the fuel. Just steaming as its being evaporated. Good to hear everythings running sweet! :D

Is your car injected or carby? If it's carby then check your transmission oil if it's also an auto. There's a vacuum line that runs from the auto to the inlet manifold. At the gearbox end there is a diaphragm and if it fails the tranny oil will be sucked into the inlet manifold which then burns a very pure white. It maybe the case with an injected car as well, i'm not sure on that.

This happened to me a few years ago about 3 days after I brought the car. The the auto started playing up (because of lack of oil). I thought I'd brought a real lemon but it was just the diaphragm that needed replacing.

Nah it aint auto.

Started her up this arvo (car wasn't cold) for about 5-10seconds deep white smoke, nothing when I'm driving though.

Honestly dunno what's going on, next pay she's going in for a service and a clean up.

could be valve stem seals. i emphasise could cause these can be expensive to get done.

I haven't known this to happen on a Magna but if the brake booster leaks brake fluid into the vacuum line that causes white smoke.

To be safe check your brake fluid level.

Possibly slight internal head gasket leak.. water leaks into combustion chamber after car is turned off.

Rah way too many variables!

I'll take it to my mechanic next pay and get his opinion. Thanks everyone!
