thats terrible murial
Sometimes its not the cost or whether its worth it but the love of fixin it up sweet.
Only you can make that decision after evaluating the costs involved. Moustache is ok for the time being

It's not worth doing up a Magna - but most of us do it and love it. lol
Getting back to your question...
If you still enjoy your car and she's reliable, keep her and do her up, we need more modded 1st Gens.
If your wanting something newer, I'd look at a 3rd Gen (some of the early ones are dirt cheap now). Then do the new car up

lol....dude......My moustache is what makes me look my age........if i chaved mi moustache of id look like im 17 and all the young girls would be afta me :P i dont want that coz im 22yo...
Back to the thread...i'd love to get a custom made front and rear bars done......and tomorrow im taking my TM magna to an auto electrician....so they can fix up my Instrucment cluster.....because....ever since i've installed my Pioneer head unit, my cluster nad transmision ligts dont come on while im driving at night. so once i get the major ones fixed and get my car serviced.... i can finally go on one of those cruises.......so far the biggest drive i've done since i've had mi car was, i driven to springwood. what sux though guys....I have to wait two more years till i get my full licence so i cna mod my engine :(.....Oh well....btw fellas ...it's a pleasure getting to know you all..... can't wait to meet ya.....(dont take it the wrong way lol) I'm just another Friendly AMC member wanted to meet new people.

Personally if you like your car and its reliable, just keep it standard till u can get something nicer and if you must, mod that.

MOD IT! NOW! QUICK! Or youll get banned lol
Ok be honest. Is it worth doing up any car? Not really...very few cars break even, let alone make a profit. But theres nothing wrong with it. I get people amazed at my car, and its got 15" wheels with no lowering. Its called being unique.

It is really a personal choice, just have to remember the money you spend now, you will not make it back in the future.

Personally... I wouldn't. I would sell it for a newer 3rd Gen.
But if you like the car and want to mod it then mod it.

That's what im intending to do :) coz, with those minor problems that those old magnas happen and it costing me money, plus i gotta pay back my dad the money which i borrowed of him to get this car on the road. ONE THING I H8 BOUT CARBYS.....THEY ARE FUEL HUNGRY.
gotta pay back my dad the money which i borrowed of him.
in regards to my quote, i borrowed $1,500 of my dad which covered repairs, rego insurrence and CTP aaaaand including blue slip. It may sound stupid but, im hoping i could at least get $1000 for that car of mine.........its got 12 month rego *nods*

What springs does that thing have in the front? Looks like it's riding on superlows, or nothing at all!

So you're trading in your 4 cylinder carby for a 3rd gen, presumably a V6 with fuel economy that either matches or is worse than your current car... If fuel is your concern go with a 2.4L 4cyl, or a different car.

In regards to the dash lights not working.
Run another earth from the headunit to the chassis and replace the taillight fuse because you will find your tail lights dont work either.

Like all the rest have said, it's not worth it in terms of gains. It's only worth it if you like to throw dough into the wind.
Have a look at the thread I've made about all the dough I've thrown into the wind, I'm also still at it! :bowrofl:

hmmmm i've decided to keep my Magna TM and im planning to do it up....body will stay the same but the colour will change to moody blue.....carpet will be changed from grey to black as therefore my seat covers are black and blue (scorpion style).....atm i have a pioneer head unit with stock speakers (heap of crap ones)..my future setup for in-=car entertainment is this:
twin 12" pioneer subs, 4 channel pioneer amp or JBL, pioneer or jbl mono block amp......2 front speakers which will be 6"pioneer with splits, and 6" pioneer at the back....my dash vynils are going to be black, centre console will be blue and door trims will be blue...i'll try to replace teh grey carpet within the door trims to black..... once i've saved up the money the intererior modding begins.
Get rid of those stock speakers quick!! I didn't even know they were compatible with a modern headunit! :bowrofl:
I would say try and get some 6x9's in the rear rather than just 6's.
Would like to see new carpets on the inside, haven't seen black in a 1st gen before. :)

Cause the idea of 6x9's is to produce a lot of bass. Put in two subs and 6x9's and you wont jack-**** treble. Ahh but then again I just looked at your profile, and your audio gear. With all that sony equipment you must be pumping at least 180dB.......:doubt:

So that would be why my 4 channel 6x9's have high frequency cones on them? I should remove them, I wish my whole audio spectrum was just low frequency, none of this high frequency business. Seriously though, put your hi-pass filter onto you 6x9's and they perform well in the high frequency ranges, nothing to be scoffed at.
And Legionair, I must bow to your fantastic array of audio equipment your TP magna is packing, you must be blowing the rust spots off that relic of yours! I mean, bagging out my Sony gear, you cunning devil you ;) Hitting my weak spot like that! My audio gear sounds good to me, while it's no Rockford Fosgate, I enjoy my setup, and I consider it to be more than adequate for driving to work with.

6x9's sound worse than a good pair of 6.5" inch splits.
6x9s are a subwoofer substitute not recommended for use in conjunction with subs mate so yes you should get rid of your 6x9s in favour of some nice 6's or 6.5's
I also would not recommend ANY sony audio gear in a car and would much rather legionaires system than your own (apart from his headunit :P). Oh and you have obviously never seen his 1st gen, my mobile phone has a higher likelyhood of rust than his TP.

Im soooo sorry oh lord of cars and audio. How rich are uni students? If you can answer that question, maybe you can see why i own a 17 year old car, with cheap audio equipment. Maybe you like your setup, but overall, a proper audio setup would never have 6x9's in the rear. Unless you've got some SPL issues, and cant find a sub with enough power. A pair of 6" speakers will be crisper. Why? Because they arent designed to pump out both low and high frequencies.
Oh and next time you call my car a relic maybe you should look at yours. Unless im wrong, its got the same engine as mine, so just cause the shell is newer, your engine is just as average. Remember its easy to talk when you live in Queensland mate, im sure you would be suprised to see my cars condition. Probably cleaner then yours.

Yes, it should. When I bought mine, the automatic choke was out of adjustment and the secondary throttle not working. The car ran ok but had no power and used heaps of fuel.
Now that I've fixed the carby, it feels like another car. Acceleration is at least twice as good and fuel consumption much better. The carby now makes a lovely burbling noise when the secondary throttle kicks in. It tempts you to use full throttle more often than necessary just to hear the noise. If it wasn't for that, the fuel consumption would be even better.

2) im yet to hear good 6"s in the rear of a car...and anyone whos heard my system can say that it pumps pretty hard.
who the hell said 6x9"s dont sound good anyway? thats cause your all used to cheap *** kenwood and BOSS and havent heard some good speakers....when you do and you pump a nice amount of power into them they will still sound nice with 700W of sub bass behind that.

I dunno bro...but i reckon 6" will work well with subs coz 6" will produce trebble

The amount of air the sub displaces should make the speaker cone move on a lower note anyway, it would be best to have either 3 or 2 way 6" because 6x9's will produce to much bass, and with a sub you shouldn't need more bass, if you do want more bass you should install another sub, and also some tweeters as bass is not the most important you want a nice even balance of the whole spectrum.

I totally agree with you dude.....what you're saying is correct. An example for this is Floor standing speakers and a sub.....i have 3 way floor standings on my mini hi-fi system oumping out 180 watts each speaker while ny passive 8" sub pumps out 100watts, my floor standing speakers have dual woofers so lets just say they sorta look like 4 way 6x9's.
Hmmm how much you reckon a DIY car paint job would cost?? coz im planning to get rid of the metallic silver i currenly have on my TM and spraying it moody blue and im thinking of getting some air burshing done too, with my nick name Daora Heat with flames around the name. I'm also thinking of saving up for my own Air compressor.

umm... if youre worried about treble what the hell are front speakers for? theyre called splits, they have a tweeter that directs all the high frequency you need right at your ears, i find 6x9's have nice bass, but go alrite on the treble aswell, and im comparing my jbl 3 way 6x9's with jbl 5 1/2 inch 2 ways which are ordinary and produce hardly any treble or bass, yet my setup it hits the high notes and frequencies fine and sounds quite good considering its only 4 speakers off the head unit with front speaker that are planned to be upgraded to splits, amped and a sub added
basically im saying youre not wrong, 6's in the back would probably be better, but 6x9's should be fine depending on the brand

lol, funny everyone says all this crap...
anyone heard of crossovers?
YOU FILTER OUT THE BASS TO THE SPEAKERS NOOBS
= 6x9's sound the same as basic 6"s
my rears were only $130, and i love them....of course compare this to $130 6"s....then well compare with speakers of equal value not just in general
