my fuel gauge is stuffed, so, like a good AMC member, I did some searching and found some threads mentioning a recall on the 3rd gen fuel sender units... does anyone have any info on this supposed recall?
I know, it's a $70 part, and I could probably put it in myself, but I would prefer to get Mitsu to fix it if they will.
cheers,

I had a recall done on mine, it was somethin to do with the fuel lines / sender. I got a letter stating it needs to be done, didnt cost me a cent (Obviously cos it was a recall)

All I could suggest is enquire at your local Mitsu dealer... If the car has been done there will be a silver sticker inside drivers side door panel (next to bonnet release)

just got off the phone with NCM here in Canberra... fuel sender unit $99.70, but none in stock in the country right now (gee, I wonder why??!!) 3 weeks to get one.
I asked the service department about a recall on them, and he said "It's a known fault, but there's no recall. If the car's under warranty, we'll fix it for free. If not, you pay." he sounded like he didn't even know about the recall I posted before.
anyway, I guess I'm looking for a wrecker with a late model 3rd gen.

My car was 3 years out of warranty when they fixed mine, didnt cost me a cent. If its a known recall, there is no way the customer should have to pay for it. Even if you arent the original owner it should be still done (Warranty or not)

There was also a TJ recall relating to the insulation on the firewall causing corrosion of the fuel lines.
Cheers,
Martin.

There was another recall in recent times, because my ralliart got called in and the manufacture date is well past the notification as displyed in the notification you found.
To add my 2 cents. Just take the car into a mitsu service and let them deal with it.

well to be honest i had a ralliart as well b4 .but as i stated b4 that fuel sender is not a recall. they fixed mine bcoz im still under warranty so as the mitsu guy told u u dont hav warranty then pay up the price for a new one. if u buy a second hand one u dont know how long it will serve u wat if u got another sender which is faulty wreckers dont give warranty on their stuffs:think: at least with a new one u got warranty think bout it 45$ vs 90$

A better way to look at it is this: if you buy one from the wreckers and it is dodgy, then the best case scenario is that you spend ANOTHER $45 to get a second one, for a total of $90, and you've had to do the job twice (assuming the second one did actually work). Or if you got a new one second time round it costs you $135.
Or you could spend $90 straight up for a new component and know it will work and only have to do the job once. Plus you know it is actually a high quality component as opposed to a used one that might be working today but could fail tomorrow...the only time you buy second hand parts is if it either doesn't matter (ie. not likely to fail, and in good condition, eg. body parts etc), or if you're strapped for cash and just need to keep the car on the road and don't care if it fails and needs to be done again in 6 months time because you'll just find the cash then if you need to...think of the extra cost of new parts as being insurance against all the **** you could experience instead if you got dodgy second hand parts. Like all insurance, it might seem like it costs you today, but think about what it is saving you from spending tomorrow...

you've got a point..however my car (2000 TJ) is fine. my GF's 2002 advance had troubles. you'd think the newer ones would have been changed.anyway we got one from a all magna wreckers in sydney.took 5 minutes to put it in.been great ever since. (months later) but yes getting a new one would be good.but she couldnt afford it. was just laying out options 4 ya:D
