Anyone notice that their exhaust has got louder with age. My VRX has done 22000km and even my wife says it louder. Not a bad thing though as it sounds great, and it's not a leak. Just curious to know if anyone else noticed it with theirs.

Maybe you've just run the engine/exhaust in a bit?

Supposedly the new 6.0L Holdens pick up their pace a bit when they've been run in, but thats probably just rumours started by hopeful Holden owners :P

I've been wondering the same thing. I think mine may have gotten a wee bit louder too. It is a nice throaty note for a stock exhaust... much better than my stock TF. Not that I can prove it though. Anybody else? It must be a common trait with the 380 exhaust system.

EDIT: "throaty note"... actually more like a droning buzz

Exhausts are well documented as aquiring a deeper note once they have done a few kays. My 380 has developed a slightly deeper note since being run in. Onother example was when I put a decent zorst on old VX SS Commie......the note deepened after about 5'000 kays :D

That's pretty cool, the exhaust getting louder. (Mine's 15,000)
Stepping sideways from the thread... is it correct that you can not fit standard headers to the 380 because of extra anti-pollution gear up near the engine or something? I was wondering if anybody has run full extractors on a 380. If they sound this good with a stock system, how much better would they sound either freed up a little, or fully?

this is not a rumor, but its also not selective to 6.0L holdens. Infact all cars will pick up their pace as they are run in. This is because a brand new engine is generally tight and not as willing to rev freely as an engine that has been run in. Hence why run in engines are said to "free-up" with age. My magna was no different, i noticed an increase in performance after about 5000 km's. However it is true that generally larger capacity engines seem to free up more with age then smaller capacity engines, for reasons which i dont really understand but it seems to be the case
