I just finished doing the LED install on the splashdown part of my cluster, everything looked sweet with nice colour. I decided to adjust the LED's to get better coverage when i must have shorted the LED's causing a little smoke followed by a plasticky (is that a word?) smell from the back of the cluster.. (need to polish up my soldering skills) upon inspection i noticed a burnt patch ( see pic below ) so i assume thats the culprit.,. Is it possible to fix the ribbon cable or am i f*%ked?

Lethal - if your reading this chuckling  , i may need to take you up on that offer for that spare cluster if i cant fix this one...

cheers all

since it's already blown there, you may as well try bridging it with a short piece of wire. But what usually happens is that something else will give... so that's my 2 cents worth.

good luck.

Hmm as long as the circuit breaks at the back of the board aren't fused together, I think WhiteDevil has the right idea. Then again don't take my word for it, I'm no electrician.

You can repair most damage like that (if plastic isn't burnt through by using silver pcb etch pens. Otherwise just solder a short wire inbetween two good parts of the circuit to bypass the break.

i'll give it a go guys - thanks all - will let you know how it goes :o

update: its all fixed - i just soldered another short piece in to bridge the gap and it seems to work fine...

all i have to do now is get some white dials - standard black ones look crap, you can see the blue light fine, but nothing like the dash job on "the elites" car - that looks very nice.

thanks all for help
