Had to do some work on the old girl so disconnected the battery. Was reading here a few weeks ago that the trans takes awhile to relearn ( for the want of better words ) your driving style so I sort I would see what would happen if I held it in gear to red line to try and teach it some better manners. Went out of town for a bit and found some nice open road, disconnected the battery, Had some food, a few smokes and sat around for an hour as I have no idea how long it takes to reset the trans electronics. Connected it back up and gave it heaps for awhile.

After all this I thought that it appeared to be changing better and further up the rev range and a bit crisper as well but put it down to good old placebo effect. Oh well got me out of the house for a bit as I am a house husband and a good reason to flog my car as well with no kids around <grins> Anyways the wife borrowed my car for a bit and when she got back she started to accuse me of spending money on my car as it felt way different to her after the last time she drove it <laughs>

So maybe placebo effect, maybe a difference.

Anyone else tried this at all ? If so what where the results ?

(edit) oh it's a 99 model standard 4 speed

Cheers

from what i know it will only change the rev range in which your gears will change. no power gain but ye kind did notice it. when i first reset the ECU didnt really know the tranny would have to re learn ur driving pattern and went out and flogged it here and there and that whole week the car seemed strange and different to previous week. so read up reset the ecu and drove it nicely and ye everything was back to normal and in cruzin mode it was changing its gear between 1800 and 3k insteat of 4k lol
but ye no power gain.

to reset the trans ecu you only need to d/c the neg batt terminal for a short period less than 1min... its covered on here somewhere

I've got mine to a nice point, come out of corners you only need a little throttle to make it downshift and leap off. Unfortunately, that's not what I want when the bubba's in the car and I'm trying to drive a little sensibly... oh for a power button (just one that would let the box know which of two profiles it should use.)
