They do work, as long as they are set up properly and clean and the wind is blowing just right, and the sun is high in the sky and the moon is in the cusp of.......Sorry getting carried away. I have found they are very tempermental things. I think reversing cameras are a better investment IMHO.

wouldnt have a clue of what they are like when fitted aftermarket. I was driving an HSV R8 just the other day and the reversing on that was absolutly spot on. For someone that is 5'2" (Sounds like my wife  ).. it would certainly help... then again any additive to help a women drive would be recommended  :P

Makes me glad my wife is 6'1" .. same as me. We don't have to bother adjusting seats, mirrors and the lot
I's say go the camera just because it is more techy
Cheers

Just be careful that the sensors don't become a total replacement for still trying to clear the rear visually. Even if she thinks she can't see obstacles that clearly, you don't want to take the chance of a faulty all-clear from the sensors meaning you run over someone's kid that a visual check would still have seen. They're a backup, not a replacement, which many people don't seem to realise. Not that your wife would be one of those people, but I figure a friendly reminder wouldn't go astray! :)
not sure how much they are normally worth.
but i know k-marts are selling the autotechnca (or whatever you call em) ones for $65 clearance, just depends if your local store has any left.
was thinking of getting them to use as clearance guides for my front bar lol

Reversing sensors are great. I find them very beneficial, especially when reverse parking. And they are pretty damn accurate too.

I put aftermarket ones in the wifes KJ and they work a treat.
She can see fine out the rear but she just wanted piece of mind. A few times she has been backing back and they have been going beserk and she has looked behind her and couldnt see anything. She stopped anyway and when she got out, turnes out there was a knee height star steak a few inches away from the bumper.
Already paid for themselves.
Paid roughly $250 on sale i think and probably about the same to be installed, painted and calibrated.
Yay, just got mine fitted on Wednesday. Works a treat. Bought it off Ebay for $50 and got
it installed for $150. The rear bumper had to be taken off and drilled including drilling
through the foam backing. The panel beater next to Agostino Elizabeth here in Adelaide
used the template for the 380s to line up the holes. The sensors were also colour coded to
match the car.

I find that a simple and quick visual check of the surrounding area before getting into the car spots those sort of obstacles very reliably too...and saves me $500! :D

Kind of agree with you but the sensors do help.
Though I did not install them but they are something to think about if you got cash to spare.
The thing is not to over rely on them as you may end up really forgetting to check your rear.

I installed reversing sensors on a TE the other day at work and I wouldn't want them on my own car. We reversed the car up to a wall and when it was about an inch away the sensors said that there was 20cm left before the wall.

Whoa.... Sure they were properly adjusted? I thought they were able to beep faster as you approaching nearer to something.

oh I do agree that they help, but to me it's kinda like having someone help you feed yourself when there's not even anything wrong with you...sure, they're assisting, but do you really need it?
It's well to say "don't rely on it", but how many people would spend $500 on something and NOT rely on it? The best way to avoid forgetting to check your rear is to not install a reversing sensor that many drivers WILL end up relying on to do the check for them. Until people start getting beamed directly into their cars, they will still have to walk up to them from some external location...and in the process of approaching the car, it takes nothing more than a few glances in either direction to scope out any potential obstacles and register their relative distances and locations...
Yes, I can see how they can help...but at the same time, I can't see how they are anything more than a very expensive gimmick that is rendered totally unnecessary in any car by the simple application of commonsense prior to entry to the vehicle.

KL GTVi . Four sensor system colour coded and installed $159 including a visual distance display above the rear window.
Work great. Well worth the investment

$159 is cheap!! I've been quoted $229 in Melbourne.

I'm guessing this was quoted by Selmax (www.reverseparkingcamera.com)?
They installed the sensors in my Verada a few months ago when they were doing it for $199

Yep, correct, by Selmax. So they've bumped up the price by $30! They don't do mobile installations. I've to go to Dandenong.

It took them almost an entire day to do mine because, especially with the veradas, you
have to paint the sensors to match the body colour and let it dry. You also have to
remove the bumper to drill the holes and also drill through the impact absorbtion foam as
well plus installing the controller and wiring it up neatly.

I was told it'd take about 1 hour to do the job!!

Selmax installed the sensors in my Verada without removing the bumper (they needed the car for 3 hours). They had already painted the sensors a few days before the install. They used to be in Box Hill so they were very close to where i live (Doncaster).

Got my reversing sensors put in yesterday by Selmax in Dandenong. The job took just over an hour. It appears they're much more experienced now! Happy with the way it works, but must admit the warning tones could be a little bit louder. Have to really turn down the volume of radio/cd in order to be able to hear it. You have the same problem?

Yeh, sometimes i have to mute my HU so i can hear the warning tones.
But once it's muted there are no problems hearing the tones.
Selmax installed the beeper unit next to one of the 6x9 speakers in the parcel shelf so the warning tones can be better transmitted into the cabin. Maybe our Veradas have more sound deadening making it harder to hear the tones when there is another source of noise in the cabin?

I called this mob Selmax but they do not seem to have NSW representation.
Does anyone know who in Sydney can do similar to these guys?
Thanks
