What's the reasonable charge for an auto transmission service by a dealer? Mine is due for one soon and because of the warranty, have to be done by the dealer.

Is funny that you asked, since you already stated it has to be done by the dealers. let them charge you. About $150++(could be just under $200 mark) its stated in their workshop if you look around. There is no such thing as a reasonable charge if you already need to bring it in.

Unless you are bringing it outside then is a whole different story.

"Powerflush" for 3rd gen V6 trans will cost about $190-220ish at a dealer.

This is where they hookup to a external machine that pumps in fresh fluid
whilst the transmission is running (like a blood transfusion!) and it will flush thru
several volumes of fluid... pretty hard to DIY this without the machine.

Anything cheaper would be just to change fluid whilst static... can DIY
but you'll need to buy nearly 10L of fluid which costs nearly $100 itself.

Earlier 3Gs have a spin-on oil filter for trans behind the battery which is changed;
later 3Gs have an internal filter which isn't routinely changed so you should
powerflush these ones regularly especially, say every 20-45,000km.

Why do people still think that services done before the expiration of warranty MUST be done by the dealer? That's just a myth perpetuated by dealers, with no basis in fact. If you're just getting a service done, any fully qualified mechanic can do the job, doesn't have to be a dealer at all.

Doing warranty work, well perhaps that is best given to a dealer, for obvious reasons. But services? Just go with whoever you'd normally go with, as long as they are qualified!

Extended or non-manufacturer warranty generally can only be done at the dealer.

It's the standard factory warranty that can be done by any licensed mechanic.

I get my stuff done at the dealers because I trust him, the head is freindly etc and the workshop looks pro and they currently dont have any trainees there.

I bought my car (2nd hand) from dealer which provides for a 3 year (parts & labour) warranty or till 175,000kms, on the condition, as stated in the contract, is to have the car serviced by them.

... auto transmission service ... Mine is due for one soon
Technically the auto only needs servicing every 90,000km... are you up to that?

Yep, it's done 97.000. According to the manual, it should be done at 100,000 kms.

fair enuff then, get it done

yeah 100k doesn't quite match up with the 15k oil intervals, so dealers
usually recommend you do it at 90k or the cheapskates wait till 105k.

But I don't wait that long, powerflushed at 45k and its running noticeably better.
15k oilchange is also crazy, for longetivity I do mine ever 5k.

Have also DIY flushed trans before... by the time you buy 3 fills of correct Mitsu fluid
and its such a messy time-consuming job... I'd rather be paying dealer $200 to do it. :doubt:
