Well, My Girlfriend finally gave in and let me fit a sub woofer to her lancer.
Its was a simple set-up, Just a pioneer 2 channel 150wrms amp, a "600w" Clarion 12" sub, and a slot ported clarion box. I bought her some VERY cheap rca cables, and a california gold Power cable.
all up, it cost a mere $310, which is a bargain in anyones language.
I cant belive how cheap 12" subs can be bought now, The 12" clarion was $69! The amp was $150!
When i bought my first sub for for $150, and it was just 150wrms. the clarion is claimed 300wrms, and far better built than the Marithon bass 15".
Even when i bought my Kenwoods, they where $120 each, now i can buy them for $89.
This is also the first time i've personally used a ported box, and we only bought it, because Katy liked the look of it, and it seems to work very well, without the fuzzy, unclean bass i thought it would have. Still very punchy, i couldnt belive it.
Now i just have to convince her she needs some focal splits up front and a big 4 channel and she'll be set.:D

i was in the same boat not to long ago, girlfriend wanted a sub, due to the small size of her car i reckoned an 8" would do the trick... so i went and got and 8" jbl gto woofer= $100, audio line 2channel amp= $79 and an earo pro 8 gauge wiring kit= $30, i built a very small sealed box out of scrap mdf, made a 30mm baffle (sandwiched 12mm and 18mm together), and the rest is 16 mm, then i sealed it with a coat of fibre glass resin inside, then used a stinger road kill wedge pack i had lying around and covered the whole inside just for the hell of it :D this things built like a brick **** house lol, used some cheap green rcas i had in the shed, wired it all up and turned it on, tell ya what, giving that thing about 130-150rms it makes ALOT of noise in a small car (excel) she's pleased as punch and i was in her good books for ages after that one lol

Nice work man! If ya not into SQ or SPL the cheap stuff is good to use i reckon. No point in spending mega bucks when it wont be appreciated to its full extent.
Anyway my girl has been hassling me to put a stereo in her car ever since she got her Swift, she wont let me put a sub in atm, but i think that will change once i get my gear in my car. I reckon a nice 10" on about 150rms would do nicely for a swift, what ya reckon?

My girls always love it when I put some vibration into their back end.
I installed a Pioneer 12" running off a rather annoying West Coast Customs (i didn't buy it haha) amp into a 1980 Toyota Corona Liftback, that thing goes OFF! The boot is pretty much in the cabin area with no parcel rack, its all bass in there lol Matched with some nice Kenwood 6'ers all around.
