leads are so easy to change just do one at a time simple as for how long have you ever changed them? and if no how long have you had the car. i would say change them every 2 years

I change them every Christmas - easy to remember, until I used Bosch Leads. Now I change every two to three years - at Christmas. They have a 100,000 warranty.
Hope this helps

roughly how much are we looking at to replace the leads?
Spark plug leads are designed to conduct electricity.
If they are still doing this, then there is absolutely no good reason to change them.
Check how well they are conducting with a multimeter.

Cheap as chips to easily over $150.. Depends on what you're after and how bad you get sucked in by advertisment. 99% of folk here either go with the standard hi-tension leads or fancy pants bosch leads..

As TL-R said... no reason to change unless they have any visible external damage, are not constantly outputting voltage (misfiring), or have excessively high resistance.
As for plugs, definately iridium over platinums mate, but they might cost you a bit.
after buying leads from directly from a local manufacturer, "OZTEK cables" i will never buy spark plug leads from an automotive shop ever again.
i got 8mm spiral core leads for my rx7, the same as what OZTEK supply to a number of v8 supercar teams, for $40 for the complete set. In shops you would expect to pay well over $100.

So is there any supposed gain from the OZTEK cables? (ie lower resistance).. or is it just purely a build quality thing?

That's not going to tell you a great deal....
A spark plug lead with cracked insulation will still show continuity when tested with a multimeter. However, when you apply high voltage from the coil, it's likely to arc through the any cracks in the insulation.
In other words, a multimeter test in isolation is meaningless.
Cheers,
Martin.

Do they come as a boxed kit or are you meant to buy them as separates?
I asked at several SCAs when I last touched my plugs; none sold any boxed kits for Mitsu
and when I tried to buy separate leads they couldn't find anything with those long plug caps.

Bosch or Champion steel leads - boxed for around the $50 mark
Your store may only stock them seperatly, you will have to look up your model and the number for each lead.
Havent had a problem with start-ups, car runs smoother - dosent hurt to have better spark plugs then the basics. NGK all the way.
Supercheap have both, plugs&leads - well mine does anyway

Good idea to do some reading/research

iradium IX plugs are quality
The use of Iridium spark plugs is only just starting with Japanese car manufacturers who are finding them ideal for very low emission engines.
theres also some plugs for sale in the for sale section

I've got the topgun 8.0's and they're already breaking down and I've only had them on for a year. I don't rate them AT ALL.
I got some 8.8's for my TP from some mob in Kallangur (North Brisbane) "Ignition Specialists" and they were grand, never broke down after about 2 years and always kept a good spark, my mechanic even asked where i got them from and got some for his worked 350 HQ Woody' and Hilux and apparently recommended them to anyone that wanted good leads at his shop.
I read on 3si that the Magnecor KV85 leads are the goods but they're about $70USD and one place was charging $100USD for shipping!! - Shawn (Philcom) said his supplier is trying to win the Magnecor distro for SA so we might be able to get them from Shawn soon. They are a "Racing" lead so this explains the price. It costs almost the same for the leads from that Kallangur place (they are hand made on the spot for you though, and in many colours!! )
Well 3si.com talks about Magnecor leads (KV85 to be exact) and I rang the local 'dealer' of them, "Extreme Motorsports" who didn't know they were even a dealer for them! They had never heard of them! but he said that he'll get all the prices and brands of leads for the 6g72 (2nd gen) and give me a call tomorrow arvo. He stocks Mallory, Accel, Top Gun etc.. He recommended Top Gun 10mm leads but i said i wasn't too impressed with them.
He mentioned the ignition place at Kallangur that I posted about previously, but i asked for packs of leads. Plus the custom leads are very expensive.
Mind you a US site had the KV85's for $70US and the postage to AUS is $100US.. I won't be getting those leads unless they garantee at least 5kw atw, which they won't.
I'd only pay the equivalent for stock leads for 'performance' leads. I can't even see me wanting to spend over $60 for them because there really is not much of a performance gain without upgrading any other parts of the ignition system and from what i've read, there's no point in doing that even for turbo & s/c apps so i'm just after the best lead for my internally stock magna..
IT CAN'T BE THAT HARD! - There's just no proof over whats better/best!
I'm not sure if anyone is following this thread but I'm pretty interested in it. I got a price back from "Extreme Motorspots" about the Magnecor leads and he said he liked them, made "local" in detroit. He said it will end up being $200 inc freight, which is nuts - This isn't any strip beast, its my daily hack so i will NOT pay even $100 for leads unless I am really impressed with them and they last me at least 3 years!
He was keen to sell me some 10mm Top Gun leads but I have already emailed Shawn (Philcom Rally) about prices on these which I'm sure Shawn can easily beat this shop, even if it has to be freighted!
Then again 10mm leads are a bit damn hefty but my Extreme Motorsports was confident the magna would love it because they have strong coil-packs and would kill cheaper leads fast. I said "ok, bye". I'd like to know what sort of leads the "Tuned" magna's are running and if they have any knowledge on this simple yet probably complex issue of getting the products right or killing precious kW on an unmodded car like mine and many others where every kW counts and can be felt.
i just went and got some bosch super sports plug leads from supercheap auto.
$4.95 each.
they didnt hurt....

Yeah i know they won't hurt, but can you get better leads? I'm trying to find an optimum lead. Everyone has spent much time on everything from plugs to air filters and mufflers, i feel leads are the neglected link in some n/a big scheme of things.
