hi,
im looking to buy a magna, whats the advantages or differences between the TE and TH?
i think that the TE has the 3.0 and the TH has the 3.5, but what other changes were there?
is it worth paying the extra money for the TH?
and more importantly, is the 3.5 a better motor?
eg. power / economy / ease of increasing power etc
examples:

TH -

thanks in advance for any help!

I have a TH and i have driven a TE, both fairly the same power but the TH is a bit better. i think the TE has what around 135 to 140KW and the TH has 147KW, both are nearly exactually the same exept for interior, and the front bar is different, and also the rear inside break light on the TE is located on the parcel rack and the TH is on the top of the window. thats abou all i know, but if you want more use the search button because i think that this issue has been raised B4

It may only be 7kw, but there is a massive torque difference between motors.
Just be careful as not all TH's are 3.5L, it was only an option on this model.
As for your original question, i believe the 3.5L is a better motor, but that's only going off of what i've test driven so the engines i drove may have been flogged, but the general feeling i got was the 3.0L struggled down low where the 3.5L didn't even break a sweat. My advice is to take both for a test drive.

The TH is a newer model 99, TE are from 96.
The front bar and grill is different, the tail lights looks slightly better.
Its up to your budget, I would go with TH between the two. I had no knowledge of Magnas when I bought mine. But after coming here, I would have bought a TH.

The additional advantage to buying a newer version of a car is usually smaller bugs etc have been ironed out.

i think the TH stock rear looks terrible, big ugly magna sticker on the garnish, tacky tail lights.

I rember being told one, that the TE/TF is better to turbocharge than the TH/TJ. I personally would go the TE, and spend the rest on mods :D
If u pick up a good TE with good condition will be just as good as a TH just not as much power down low but hew cares if your not racing your engine
it's not hard to tell what type of Magna everyone has.

Get the TH, it's newer for starters and that should win already, there cheap as chips and get a 3.5lt model, there easier to live with, the extra torque really counts. The dash in nicer in the TH series and the whole car just looks newer and nicer.

i have driven my mate rents TE magna, i own a TH, and i have driven a TJ, out of all three the TJ i think has a better take off and seems to drive a bit smoother, but my TH i think is far better than my mates rents TE, mine seems a bit more comfortable and powerfull off the line, so i would say a TH........... or a TJ if u have the money

Dont mean to sound silly, but why would the 3L be better off to turbo than 3.5L?

When it all boils down to it mate, go with what you like the most, and as far as your budget allows, as you've probably noticed you will get so many people say something different that it will confuse you...so simple:
Find the model you like the most.....then find one that fits within your budget - just remembering, the higher the k's - generally the lower the price...
so, if you like the TH the most, find one with the lowest k's that fits within your budget, then consider overall condition of the car......stuff the colour of the car, a colour is a colour!

I believe it's because the 3.0L is designed to put most of it's power out in the higher rev range, makes it easier to turbo with better results, but all you'd need to do was change cams and re-tune the 3.5L to move the torque curve higher in the rev range and the 3.5L would be better. Guess which one costs more though :P.

You can buy my TF, Its manual... Mmmm manual
You'll know the difference if you go manual. Auto is like smooth walk. Manual is more of a kick in the balls

thanks for all the replys,
i know that a good TH will come up soon enough, there are enough magnas out there!
i will get the trading post tomorrow morning and go from there.
i really would like the 3.5 and i think that i will wait for one, rather than rush in and just get something i dont really want just because i want / need a car.
id love a manual one, but i think i will be waiting a long time for a good manual to come around.
any other suggestions or possibilities still welcome,
Perrin

All 3rd gen veradas from KE-KH came with the 3.5L that was in the TH's.

lol yeah. I have a manual 3.0 TF and I'd still recommend the TH, you can't beat the larger displacement.
As smooth revving as the 3.0 is, it simply lacks low down torque. And once you have a passenger or two, you really notice the torque deficit.

Go the TH. They ironed out the Transmission bugs in the TH's and also it is a 32 bit tranny rather than 16 bit which makes a fair difference in shift quality.
