OK i need alot of help here from all you magna men LOL, i have to drag one of my mates VT commodore soon and i was wondering can i win, the only engine mod i have/had is a pod filter which i am trying to sell ATM but might have to keep it though LOL, any way can any one give us some advice as to get a bit more power out of my TH as i NEED to beat him to prove that my magna can keep up with a commodore.
Help me prove that us semi-stock magna drivers can still put up a fight to a holden or ford

u should keep up with him or beat him
left foot on brake, right foot on go pedal and rev it til about 2000-2500 then when its time to go, let your foot off brake and accelerate but dont mash ur pedal otherwise u will just spin the **** out of your front tyre. Then move thru ur gears like a manual as in go L-2-3-D (should only need to take it to 3 anyways) and change gears around 5500-5700 mark
this advice is based off a 3L auto, unsure as to whether the 3.5L is the same but they should be similar
if u get the launch right u *should* win, VT's are fat n slow off the mark but they can boogy once they are up n going, my old 3L auto could stay with my mates VT but i could never quite surpass him, the 3.5L manual smokes him tho

Having driven an auto TJ and auto VT I would say you will beat him to 100 but after that he will probably catch you. The VT's are heavy and slow up to 100 but after that they go alright.
Don't bother with any mods. If you're both stock (you have a pod but that won't do anything) then you should win.

I agree except if he does have a 3.5L i'd lower the initial load to 1500 rpm and i would shift at around 5200 in a TH 3.5L.
My car stock beat a vt, so there couldn't be much in it.

You should win but I wouldn't stall up past 1500rpm. I get some chirpies and off she goes but anything above 1500rpm and it just wheel spins.

if both cars are v6 autos its damn easy to beat a vt..
leave it in d, lights green nail it.... the vt was only 147kw and bit heavier than a th, the magna looses nothing to the vt over 100km/h...
you will beat a stock vt by atleast 2-3 lenghts over the 1/4... i have droven both models back to back for some length and the vt/vx's are fat pigs...
and even VY's suck balls, my slow fat stock awd was always infront to 100km/h against my uncles VY 175kw model every time, and thats always running in d and no fancy spooling it up in the convertor and tippy shifting it

You should not have any problems with beating him as i have beaten a stock VY commodore off the lights and all i have done to my car is an exhaust

Ecotechs are slow mate. As are stock standard magnas with 4spd autos. As others have said - there won't be alot in it.

Yeahhhh thats right make sure you use your "Mates" personally built 1/4mile strip of which just happens to be on his property. I would almost bet my left nut that every town would have a marked 1/4 mile strip, whether it be between too side posts, or 2 sign posts, or if its like my town they have painted "START" n "FINISH" on the road :bowrofl:........... Ohh that must be the local athletics track out there, yeeaaahhh thats right :doubt:

my mates a rally driver, well hes done the course anyway, he had his mates vt, i have 3ltr manual, witha slipping clutch and still destroyed it, so if you loose.......................................... ill be surprised. if you get wheel spin, jsut back off the throttle slightly so it stops spinning then hit hit hard and youll be off, change manually as previously stated. and dont worry bout the kill joys, take him at every light from where ever you are all the way home, make him eat it and regret not getting a magna

OK i need alot of help here from all you magna men
Ahem, *cough cough* :belt: :gtfoslap: :boxing: :tantrum:
Now that I have that out of my system....
I've found mine respondes better with a little wheel spin, sure they think they have the jump but just wait for the power to hit the road. Change manuely about when the magna men said, pfffft! Don't give him any more time to mod the crapadore, grow a set and tell him times up.
Run your car almost dry, then put $10 of the highest octane petrol you can, only $10 as the less weight the better. Run the car on this fuel for 10 minutes or so before hand to rid the lines of the standard ****. Maybe even disconnect the battery for 30 mins or so, then drive her hard ala a madman to get the Auto ready for what your about to do to it.
But what would I know.... I'm only one of the magna girls. :uzi:

Sounds like a tad too much effort for a single traffic light derby... How about just get the clutch engaged asap and get your foot flat to the floor, into 2nd after 5k rpm and you're done.

no, s/c 3.8L made 171kW in Commodore and 180kW in HSV guise.
Pretty sure Andrewd just got mixed up between the VY's 152kW 3.8L and the VZ's 175kW 3.6L.
