I've gained some valuable info from the forums to help me install a power antenna since my stock one snapped off.

Now, i've never done electrics, so some info would be appreciated.

I've grounded the black wire, now with the red, can I get 12v from jacking the bootlid light?

Cheers.

Scott

yeah, but the antenna would go up down when you open and close the boot!

ah i thought as much. is there any other constant 12v around the boot area that i could jack?

Nar, I dont think theres any constant power that runs to the boot. you will need to run a wire from the loom which runs down the side of the car. Thats what we do at work.

will work on that on my next day off!

A few loose queries...

Is 'red' wire the +ve feed to the antenna?

Power-Up signal wire is usually yellow or something other than black & red yea?

If the red (power?) wire to antenna gets unpowered, the antenna will just not move...?

and umm...

Where is the boot light sensor/switch anyways..?!? always wondered :)

Does it switch the earth or the +ve?
If there's +ve to the switch then jack power from before the switch and that
should supply your constant 12V+... as long as enough current capacity.

The bootlid light is actually the correct point to get the power from, at least with the factory item.

If you purchased a MMAL power antenna, it should have the wiring destructions in there. I did mine fine and it worked well until some bastard snapped it when I was stopped in traffic.

If you got the Aeropro kit (cheaper), then I have no idea where the bits need to be wired in.

Well I had mine powerup when I start the car. Not done by me. I wished it was setup that when I turn off my radio it goes down.

so with the bootlid light, is there a constant 12v feed?

i know i jacked a neon off the bootlid light but it only turns on when i open the lid (which is what i wanted it to do).

would prefer to just grab 12v from the boot area, then the only wire i have to run is to the headunit for the up & down of the aerial.

OMG... use positive to go to the positive side of the boot lid light... not the negative side or then only when boot is open will it receive power... ground the black negative from the antenna and there is a remote line which will connect with either the remote output on the head unit or if u want it to only work for radio u need special output from h/u.

if only got 2 wires... black goes to earthed... positive to the remote output of h/u though i dunno how its meant to go down if h/u stops sendin power through remote ouput as soon as its off.

so with the bootlid light, is there a constant 12v feed?

the bootlid has a switch sumwhere which sends 12v through to the light... i dunno where its located but thats what u need for antenna

thats the idea! Good work! Find the switch/sensor for the bootlid light... snatch the positive feed n ground the earth from antenna

sweet as! - i'm lame at electrics, so good to see my thoughts are along the right way..

cheers for the info mate!

The boot light switch is in the boot lock,
lift the boot and look at the lock there is a wire running to it, disconnect it and the light will go out. I havent tested this to see if its earth or positive but thats where the switch is

nice... will check it out. saves me having to climb in the boot and find it..

if anybody else can confirm that this is positive that would be great (haven't got my self the tools to test the wire) :(

you dont have anything not even a light that will run off 12v to see which is + n which is neg?

yeah i guess i have a light i could try..

told ya, i don't know much about electrics, just didn't want to blow fuses or anything trying to test!

get like 3 for $1. make sure u dnt rub the contacts or hold them apart or a fuse will blow... be quick and hold wires together properly.

got the antenna working today. it goes up when radio is on and down when i change to cd player.

managed to jack the constant 12v directly from the bootlight rather than the lock.

$70 for the aerial well spent I say & cheers for the help everyone..

Oh & not one blown fuse haha..

cheers... i only got onto doing this as my original antenna snapped the other week in the carwash..

paid $70 for a universal aeropro so glad that the old aerial broke (although at the time i wasn't)
