Hi Guys,
I had a really bad oil leak in my 96 TE. Put it in at the mechanics to get the leak fixed, all seals, timing belt and idle barings.
Well cut a long story short the car has come out ticking (not the ticking you get from low oil). Husge loss of power and funny burning smells, (not oil burning). any ideas as the mechanic doent wanna take fault for it?
THanks in advance
take it to a different mechanic and get them to see wats wrong

If this is a shop like Auto Barn etc...you can press them to fix it or bring it up to courts etc.
If this is a private mechanic, I am sorry, thats what you have to live with and bring it to a decent one.

I would take it back to that mechanic and tell him whats going wrong. He should fix it as you paid for that job to be done properly.
Dont be afraid to ask to get the job done properly.

& make sure ya drive the car through the front window of his workshop office...
Try changing your oil mate... who knows what grade he put into it. As for the burning smell, could be anything from wd-40/crc (smells funny when it gets to), to something as simple as a bit of gasket goo.

Alot of people always whinge and complain (and rightly so) when they receive unsatisfactory service, but its up to you to TELL the person that it is unsatisfactory. In most cases, they will fix it!
Go and talk to him (he may have let the apprentice loose and not have checked the job properly).. and if he then refuses to fix it and proclaims nothing is wrong, then come back here and have a good whinge!!

mate the fact is he has to take fault for it, you payed him your hard earned money to fix your vehicle but with no results, i suggest you call him back and demand he fixes the issue, if he still refuses to take blame then threaten him with legal action. But if your not willing to go to such measures then you wont get your car fixed unless you pay someone else.
good luck!

Ok care to explain that in a little more depth?
Generally aftera timing belt change, you will notice a little loss in power (as the belt needs a bit of time to stretch and wear in, changing the timing for a few degs), but it should be nothing too major.
Wheres the ticking sound coming from? Is there any part of the car or engine bay that the particular burning smell is strongest? How dramatic is the power loss? Try find those things out.
I think you should definately go back again and ask his opinion on what the problem could be; or better yet find another mechanic that'll have a quick listen and tell you which side of the engine its coming from.

Burning smells could easily be some oil spilt on the exhaust. If so it will go away after a reasonable run to get nice and hot and burn it off.
