any ideas on what it could be?

also, if anyone has taken one out before, is there any way to tell which of the plugs is for what? like, could it be the plug isnt working properly, maybe someone has a wiring diag for it so i can check?

trying to get it done so it can be sold tomorrow (fingers crossed)

im pretty sure u have the 7v regulator problem. on the back of the cluster there is a 7v regulator which tends to make the fuel gauge slow or dosen't read properly. so a few first genners have pulled them out and replaced with a 8v regulator from dick smith or the like for a huge amount of $1.50. faily common place. now to get to the back of the cluster there's 2 little plastic vents at the bottom and on either side of the cluster. take these out and u should be able to pull the cluster out, dont forget to unhook the speedo.

take a look at this thread, it talks about the regulator i mean.
