Hey guys,
Last night my fuel gauge was showing below 1/4 full so i went and filled up with the usual BP Ultimate.
When I get in and start the car the fuel guage needle is below the E letter. Now I wasn't too woried becuase usually everytime i fill right up it only goes up to 3/4 full then when i drive around for a bit it gradually goes up to the F.
Anyway was driving around last night for about an hour, i drove to work this morning which is roughly 45 mins and it still hasn't gone back up?
Anyone here know whats wrong? I'm guessing its either the sensor inside the fuel tank or the needle is dead.
Thanks,
Mr_Roberto

mum's did the same thing... unless its under warranty, save the money... its a 10min job...
remove back seat bottom
undo 4 screws holding cover on
undo screws holding fuel pump/float assembly in tank
unplug wiring
use 2 small flat screwdrivers to remove fuel line from spout
lift assembly from tank
take old float off, just pop out clips
clip on new 1
reverse to refit
there is 2 different 1's. to get the right part take ur VIN to Mitsu service and tell them u need the fuel gauge float for in the tank... i paid $90... dont pay $500, thats the full pump assembly.
If you've ever played around with your dials make sure it hasn't come loose. My temp guage + petrol guage both played up for a bit after I changed my dials but after pushing them back in securely they both run perfectly.

if it is the fuel sender, I was told there are none in the country and it's a 3 week wait to get one.
I think they might be all breaking about the same time!

Cool
thanks millert but i'd rather not pull wires out and stuff, plus i have an aftermarket fuel pump if that makes any difference, so i'll get someone else to do it but thanks! :D
lol wookie, i wouldn't be suprised if mitsubishi had none.
Zep, i've never pulled my dash out.

aftermarket pump shouldn't make any diff, but i can understand ppl not wanting to play with that stuff... when u take it to mistu, make sure u tell them ur 98% its the fuel gauge sender in the tank... the guys up here had no idea til i told them... might save u some dollars from them spending hours searching for a know problem they dont know about lol

nar probably cause most cars comming off warranty and people getting it done before warranty expires. http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=569666#post569666
I did mine 2 months ago and the part came in the next day.

There was the following guide posted as to how to replace the fuel sender:
remove back seat bottom
undo 4 screws holding cover on
undo screws holding fuel pump/float assembly in tank
unplug wiring
use 2 small flat screwdrivers to remove fuel line from spout
lift assembly from tank
take old float off, just pop out clips
clip on new 1
reverse to refit
I'm having trouble with "use 2 small flat screwdrivers to remove fuel line from spout"
There is a black hard plastic part which I'm having trouble disconnecting.
Do the screw drivers go in from each side, or from the end?
Could somebody give a more detailed description on how to remove the fuel line????

I'm curious, if your fuel sender unit blows up or whatever it does, does this also stuff up the reading on the computer (those with a TJII plus)? You could look off the litres used display until you got it fixed, unless they're linked?

The trip computer will continue to count litres used and km but distance till empty doesn't work when fuel light is on.

its like a plug, but has 2 'bits' that stick in (one on each side) that stick in a lip in the spout. if u get close and have a look u should be able to see the clips on each side and understand what needs to be done... u just need to push the clip on each side out and push on it and it should slide off.
and as Monster Inc said... the fuel used works, but distance to empty shows blank

and i find the trip very inaccurate, in terms of avg fuel used and litres used

:stoopid: but it doesn't work real well when your fuel used is off by a lot. I'm pretty sure the 7th injector is mucking up the readings.
before the sc went on, my fuel used was always with 1 litre of what I filled up with. now it's up to 4 or 5 litres off.

I've been using the trip computer to monitor fuel for the last two weeks since my fuel sender died, it said 23.1 litres used today and it took 23.8 at the pump and splashed out all over me, so it's pretty accurate.
Got a new sender from mitsu for $73 at trade price, i'll chuck it in tonight.
