had my clutch replaced about 3500kms ago because it was slipping pretty bad... then still noticed a rather large shudder when taking off in 1st gear and in reverse...took it back the other day and there was a crack in the main engine mount so had that replaced but now can still feel the rather large shudder when taking off in 1st. not as bad in reverse now tho...when i took it back the last time the foreman came for a test drive and said that when they machined the flywheel they may not have done it up to scratch so i have contacted paceway mitsu again and they are going to put it up and have a good look to ee what the problem is.i haven't driven the car hard at all since i have bought it, fair enough giving it some but i never do burnouts or take of overly quick thus minimising the wear on the clutch...she is my baby after all :p
lets hope this next visit can sort the drama out
what do you guys think it could be????

When i first bought my car i felt shudders when taking off in first, i had to get my clutch replaced within a couple of months of buying the car.

After it was replaced it stopped doing it, maybe they didnt do a good enough job on the clutch. Put the handbrake on, give it a rev and drop the clutch, if the clutch slips you know its still new.... lol

I did this a week after mine was replaced... didnt do that again... but there is nothing wrong with it still, and i did that 4 or 5 months ago...

Had clutch replaced 30 000km ago with exedy with 20% stiffer spring flywheel was machined (I paid for it at least) , has from the time i had it done, shuddered very slightly in 1st gear but only about 1 in 10 time from standing start when taking off gently. On harder launches there is no shudder. The shudder may be reducing as time goes on but is hard to say for certain

cheers. sounds like there is a few peeps with the same issues with the clutch...so do u think that it could just be the flywheel not machined correctly or would u be thinking a slipping clutch again???

Mine has done it since the day I got it, normal driving off at around 1600rpm often sets up some serious shudder, always does it as i drag the back wheels over speed bumps. The drivers side engine mount has a tiny crack in it, I don't know whether it's a result of the shudder or the cause of it.

I think it's more of an engine mount problem than a clutch since it still bites hard under the right circumstances.

heard back from mits today about my troubles...

MOST COMMONLY A VIBE OR SHUDDER IS CAUSED BY WORN / DRY / PERISHED ENGINE MOUNTS, DRIVER ABUSE OR FLYWHEEL REQUIRING FURTHER SKIMMING, HOWEVER WE CAN’T TELL JUST BY LOOKING AT A FLY WHEEL IF IT HAS BEEN SKIMMED ENOUGH. ONLY ONCE IT’S BACK IN THE CAR AND EVERYTHING IS BEDDED IN THEN IT MAY COME TO THE SURFACE THAT THE FLYWHEEL REQUIRES FURTHER ATTENTION, (SIMILAR TO SKIMMING BRAKE DISCS).

IT’S QUITE COMMON FOR PEOPLE LIKE THAT TO BLAME THE PLACE WHO CARRIED THE WORK AS THOSE PEOPLE DON’T ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS INVOLVED IN PHYSICALLY DOING THE WORK, ONLY IN THE THEORY BEHIND DOING THE WORK…

I’M MORE THAN HAPPY TO BRING THE CAR IN AND IF WE’RE AT FAULT I WILL HAVE IT FIXED FOR YOU FREE OF CHARGE, MOST DEALERS WOULDN’T OFFER THAT AS THEY’LL PROBABLY TRY AND BLAME YOUR LOWERED SUSPENSION, OVERSIZED WHEELS OR LOUD MUFFLER FOR THE PROBLEM LOL…

THE FLY WHEEL WAS REMOVED FROM THE CAR AND SENT TO CGC ENGINEERING FOR SKIMMING…

is it better to have the flywheel sent to an engineering place or have it done on the car?

i wouldnt bother mate... ive had two TJ manual magnas both of them suffered this... my TJ Sports didnt it with the factory clutch and after i put a brand new clutch in it...

my ralliart has done it from brand new and at 30,000kms still doing it.. it only happens 1 out of 20 (or less) take offs.. but its more like it'll go for a month without doing it then one day do it heaps..

ive given up, i just live with it.. magnas clutch systems SUCK
