Well after 4 hours of pissing around last night (thank-you Mikko!), i finally managed to get my EL Dials in... The 'One More Rice' thread was a massive help- absolute legend!
As you can see it fits with my interior perfectly- yay for something going right!!
Crappy phone pic attached, sorry digi isn't working, but I still can't get my tacho running. Can anyone shed any light on why this for me?? Everything else is working fine.
Cheers,
Bonnie

tacho isn't lighting up or the needle is moving?
My tacho needle is stuck due to a slight warp in the dials. I will be pulling my dash apart soon to put some tape behind the dial and realign some of the smaller ones that have shifted slightly - that may be your problem also
looks good with your white interior though

Cheers guys comments appreciated :D
kirky- will have to rewire power from my cigarette lighter, as the dials are currently running off my neon switch- so in the process will check the tacho guage for any warp etc. Thanks!

Ey buddy Im just wanting to know (This has nothing to do with the dials)... I see you have an after market steering wheel, did you have cruise control on the wheel beforehand??...If so where have you got it now, if not, well its a simple install ey lol

No cruise, it's a TF exec, auto, standard no fun extras as stock, just all the fun stuff i've put in since!

In regards to your tacho.
Unless the double sided tape is VERY thin, you will have to try and glue it flat OR take the dial out and put it in a book and leave it there for a while. Just to get rid of the bend.
I was silly and glued it on... so i cant take mine off lol.

Bon, one idea - splice into power before the neons switch, so the dials have power all the time.
Thats what i ended up doing
The dials will not be on all the time due to the on/off button on the dials themselves and you will still have power for neons.

kirky- On/off button on the dials?? don't have one! at the moment they're running straight off the neon switch, controlled by that. If i run it off the cigarette lighter power, does that mean that they'll be on only when i switch my lights on??

Auxillary Power output (Commonly known as the reverse cigarette lighter these days, sorry a bit of 12th man boned there lol)... Im pretty sure that will be on when accesories is switched on...

Didn't you get a little green pad that said On/Off ? there should be a black wire with two points coming off it; that this switch connects to.
IF your set is like mine. you should have:
red wire - connect to constant power
black wire - connect to negative battery or earth
black wire with two prongs - connect to green on/off pad. Look carefully and connect the socket with 1 printed about it into the plug where the arrow is (or just turn the connetions around until the dials work!)
and finally all the wiring that goes to the dials themselves.
She doesnt have the on/off pad, it was a stupid pad and the person who gave them to her replaced it with a regular switch :)
looks good, hopefully not too bright at night time :)
With regards to the taco... is the light failing to go on, or is the needle failing to move? If the light isnt going on, then you've forgotten to plug the little black connection in at the back. If the needel isnt moving, its prolly because the EL sheet is sitting up higher, just use some kind of glue stick.. its hardly permenant, but will hold it down :)
looks the goods :D

No green on/off pad, i think this was removed before i got them. At the moment it is wired from dials to switch, which takes power straight from battery, so i need to flick the switch on at night even when i've already turned my lights on. Hoping that when i change it to cig lighter it'll fix this prob and turn on when i flick my lights on??

I'd hit Leigh up to see if he has a spare pad. It will make your life a lot simpler. One switch to turn the dials on and off and no stuffing around with having neons and ciggie lighters on.
The green pad is small enough to mount on your steering column and just activate when required.
But what ever floats your boat. If you get it working how you want thats what matters ai!

Man, I already posted on the one more rice thread. Oh your Auto white piece dont look straight.
I have stated if you want to use the white pieces like for the highbeam indication, left right indicators, cruise control, the passenger seat belt, hand brake, etc. You paste over the original black pieces so that they turn out red or as what it is original, and not yellow bulb lights.
Your rev meter and ALL dials except Fuel, should check that their needles can move freely.
Otherwise a stuck needle will occur resulting in a rev up and not going down thingy.
Take your time, I am shocked that you took 4 hours with the thread already up. But still take your time.
To excecute the lights without the switch, what you can do is have a piece of wire connected to the (+) of the ash tray bulb, have it run nicely to the switch wire and connect it. Just that one wire will turn on and off the glow dials when you turn on and off the lights.
If this does not make sense, let me know, I take some pics for ya.
Use double sided tape or make your own from single sided to stick the dials down onto the cluster. As you stick them down, check the needles are freely movable. Stick the white pieces for your highbeam, brake light etc except for the auto piece on top of the originals. Else use COLOURED bulbs to give the effect, or you get yellow lighting.
Refer back to One more rice thread to see how mine way done.

Yes, well, um my dodgy magna wiring  hasn't been overly kind, there's something going on there that isn't quite right. After about 4 blown fuses we finally got there...

bonnie...
to get them to switch on and off with ur headlights u need to connect the power to something thats only on with the headlights, ie the bulb in the ashtray, or the illumination wire to ur head unit... i dont know how much power they draw but i can't see it being 2 much... splice into ur illumination wire be4 the headunit, fuse it with an inline fuse holder to what ever rating the guages need then to a switch then to the guages... keep a switch in there just in case.

They're only car mats, not the actual floor. Plan for the floor is white vinyl, with the checkerplate heel pads. . .eventually. . . And yes i know they'll get dirty- all sorted, black carpet over top to save it! It'll go nice with my white vinyl roof linig on it's way!

For those who are going to install these dials, or modify their cluster in any way:
One little tip i've just learnt from experience.
when you remove the cluster. along with the plug that you undo to remove them, make sure you fit the cluster back onto the pin connecters in your console.
I had a mess around with mine dials today, removed some of the old black ones, taped down the new etc. Any way one of the wires from the EL Dials had got wedged into the pin connection at the back of the cluster.
When i started my car the R light was illuminated even when i was in park and the car struggled to get past 10km/h - I guess that was limp home mode.

A good note but you should be very careful not to let the wires get in the way.
What you can do is have them taped on the top to prevent them getting in between.
Well hope the rest can learn from this. your cluster should go straight in.

lol This happened to me as well after I installed my EL dials too a while back. I hadn't pushed the cluster properly against the connectors you mentioned before screwing it in. The cluster lights went all crazy and the auto indicator remained on R like yours and would only engage reverse with a big thud. I reversed out of the driveway only to find she wouldn't go into Drive. So I had to fix it on the side of the road. Maggie went completely haywire.
I like it, very nice interior. White is sexy.

ummm dude DO NOT i repeat DO NOT USE THOSE PINS. one small short in there and you will be forking out a lot to get the fried wires behind that fixed. i had to learn it the hard way and i ended up blowing my speedo sensor because i used the same pins you did but i was lucky enough to only blow the speedo sensor nothing to major but still had to fork out $150 to get it fixed.
also just a side note there were 2 types of EL dials the old one had no on/off switch pad and the new ones did. the old ones you simply hooked them to any power source say for example you cig lighter so when u turn ur lights on the dials turn on. with the new one because of the on/off switch it is not possiable to do this. you have to use the switch pad to trun the lights on and off. theres no way around this because the dials works through pulse so on pulse turns it on then when u push the button afain the pulse turns it of.
so the res no way to get these dials to work without the switch pad unless u wanna risk it by cutting the little black box and playing with the wires in there.

Yeap, I followed MagTec method of installing the dials. That thread has a good write up, I wish he rewrites it or maybe give me the permission to rewrite his Glow dials thread.
But you are RIGHT do not plug your dials in that area!
To have the on/off switch without having to press them just CUT the switch wire. Wire ONLY one wire to the Positive (+) wire in the ash tray and it should work. I only needed to extend the wire to reach that area but its easy to do. The other wire is left alone, test it and you find it that it works.
Cheers!

I haven't installed these any where before but i was just thinking couldn't u tap into the holes where existing light bulbs for the cluster sit?
These would make the EL dials light up when u turn your lights on.
Oh and well done with the cluster and the interior looks very nice

Yes, this has been discussed. Should read the install manual with the given link in the thread.
