View Full Version : twin charge concept
I'm trying to find some drawings for the twin-charge system used on vw concept engine, and also a number of the old unlimited rally cars.
It seems the turbo blows through the supercharger, but I'm not too sure on the plubing to prevent over-boost. Ideally the sprintex blower would provide a maximum of 6 psi up to about 4000 rpm, then the turbo(s) would contribute a further 4 to 5 psi out to the redline. Would need fairly low compression ratio for this one, but conceptually should be good for 400 hp+ and 500nm torque.
I wonder if the INVECS tranny would cope with 500nm.
Prepared to blow about 15k on development once my warranty expires.
Objective: low 12s, street sleeper.

honestly dude, do you really see your self doing this?... id just delete this thread before the flaming begins
50 per cent probability of doing it.
Hae done stranger things - such as shoehorn a 253 into a TX Gemini, Lancia transplant into Lada Niva and buy a Magna.

really the cash would be better spent on either a twin turbo setup or just a big supercharger. the idea behind twin charging is good, but the practical/feasible aspect is pretty low. they end up over expensive/ under powered for the money/time/engineering involved.
get a big centrifical supercharger and go for ur life...
as for the gb it has been discuss about the limits be4 but i can't remember... some1 will be able to tell u.
I had this in mind also once, did some research and found that a 2 speed supercharger will be more efficient, less work and less cash. It will give you a much higher boost at a higher rpm just like a turbo as well as all rpm boost with no lag as well as no ****ty plumbing everywhere. This system can be fitted to a centrifugal type s/c, which is available for the Magna. I would like to see someone do this, $15k would give u enough to prepare the engine for it too.
I know
Centrifugal blower AND twin screw blower. Interesting to see Lexus convertible in recent performance rag with two superchargers (both screw type).
Theres no point of two superchargers, unless you looking to get over 2bar boost(which is not possible on a magna engine)

There is a Toyota Soarer that lives in alb/wodonga that is both turbo and supercharged.
I wasnt impressed when it took until halfway through me being in second to spool up and pull away.
My thoughts, waste of time and money.

hmm well it's not really a VW concept engine anymore, cos you can buy the 1.4L Twin Charger Golf GT in NZ now. only a few grand less than a GTi though

what a damn rip off
i'd spend a few $$ more to get the gti, the twin thing is a 1.4L and has a max boost of 25psi
i dont see much room for more performance mods to come from that engine...
on orig topic i know a guy who has a 265 hemi that is s/c and t/c'd about 50K has gone into it and hasnt run yet
better option, rebuild motor and run a **** load of nos through it
