Hey everyone,

Quick question, I want to bog up my TR boot garnish and make it all smooth and nice like Cummins old TS and TUFFTR's car.
How do i go about doing this preparation myself before i send it off to get painted?

Thanks for any help

depending on the depth of the garnish ,youd be better off getting a steel garnish made up first then just put a small amount of bog {no more than 5mm )over the new garnish to mould it in ,if you put too much bog on it will just eventually fall out ,sand it back then get it painted

I think he means smoothing only the actual garnish mate.. not smoothing the garnish & boot lid together.. right?

Basically just take to it with some 80grit paper and rough it up enough for the filler to stick.

Mix up your filler & apply it to the area to be smoothed. Sand it down with a co@rse grit paper. Study it for any imperfections and then repeat the process again. (& again, & again, & again :doubt: ) lol

Sand the filler to shape with the 80grit, then smooth down the whole garnish with a few varying grades wet paper (getting less co@rse as you go; ie, 320grit, 400grit, 800grit).

Once the garnish is all smoothed out with no imperfections, its your choice whether you will prime it or whether the painter will. (better if they do it with gun, not pressure pack).

if you just want to smooth the garnish just sand it smooth. there is a heaps of plastic in the garnish, if you start with some co**** paper like 80 grit then work your way down to 800 wet you will be able to forgo bog and prime the plastic. if you put too much bog in it could crack. make sure the primer you use sticks to plastic because not all of them do. the result is delaminating paint. once primed give it a sand and a coat of paint and bobs your mothers brother, one smooth garnish.

Then how are you going to fill the gaps?
